Power Ranking - Will Injuries Slow #1 Down?

It feels as if OKC has flown under the radar a bit. This may be because of the Western Conference not being as good, but OKC has been handling business. Lebron and Draymond are going to be out this week, but even with this happening, if Kawhi can carry the team through this tough week, it will show just how good this team is. OKC has a game versus the 2nd best team in the west, and I think this will be one of their toughest tasks this season.

It is actually pretty insane how well this team is doing. The offseason moves were geared to give the team younger assets, yet they still sit as #2 in the power rankings. The oldest guy on the team is 27, and there is 6 19-20 year-olds. Giannis at center has put the league in chaos, and when Nurkic comes back from injury where will he go with the team working so well?

Philadelphia took their 1st loss of the year last week, but at least it was against one of the other top teams in the league. The Sixers have not really had to worry about injuries and have not missed a beat so far. The team has depth and is very good up-top. Even when you look past the loaded starting 5 and see the young guys on this team, they are developing very well and have a very bright future. Look out for this team not only right now, but even for years to come.

LAC knocked off the hottest team in the league, the 76ers, this past week. This upcoming week will be a tough test though, having Capela, Gasol, and Anunoby out. The Clippers play OKC and Phoenix, which could be tough battles. LAC is currently on a 6 game win streak and keep it going despite the injuries.

Brooklyn has been on fire as of late, Curry and Middleton had POTW nominations this week, and they are on an 8 game winning streak. Brooklyn with the roster they have now are contenders, but the biggest problem is money, they are due to pay a whooping 220 gm points for their luxury tax bill. The moves made will be interesting, and there will hopefully not be an affect on team success after.

Charlotte is having a great year, but something seems a bit off. Embiid is not as good of a year, but the bigger problem is with Kristaps who is not even averaging half the point he did a year ago. This may be a result of the engine, and the Hornets have a lot of time to figure it out. Michael Porter Jr has taken a hit on scoring though he seems to have a great impact on the game still. The luxury tax is -118 so there could be a trade, and they could stay put. Charlotte still sit 3rd in the east as contenders.

Kyrie has taken this team to another level this season, at first there was uncertainty of the two "point guards" being able to work, but they have exceeded expectations. Simmons has been on and off this season with injuries, but when both Irving and Simmons play they look fantastic. Willie Cauley-Stein and Robert Williams have both helped this team a lot and provided front court help. As long as the duo's health is fine, the team will be fine.

Atlanta has had a big comeback this season. With Warren and Dinwiddie getting hurt early, Bledsoe has shown up after a bad start and the Hawks are now in the playoff picture. Myles Turner and Joe Harris have filled in alongside him to make an underrated trio. The Hawks depth has kept them afloat, and Gary Harris has been out for a while and it seems like he could come back soon, but everything is speculation.

Kevin Durant has still only played 3 games this season, and injuries seems to be the main issue. Demarcus Cousins the Suns' starting center is not playing here in the NLL because he was waived in the NBA. Lauri Markkanen, the recent acquisition of the Suns is hurt, but Khem Birch has done well at filling in at center. The offseason will be hard for the Suns having Markkanen and Trent both as RFAs and likely to be paid pretty well.

The Trail Blazers have now found their big man of the future, Deandre Ayton. Coby White and Andrew Wiggins have continued playing well, and Frank Ntilikina has been a pleasant surprise averaging 13.1 ppg and 6.6 apg. Deandre Hunter has been out for some time now, but the team looks a lot better than before, but it is hard to tell the long term effects the trades made on the team.

Luka!!! He has been great as of late, but the Pacers are going to be without him this week. We have still not seen this team at full power, so when McCollum comes back and everybody is healthy I truly think this team is a contender. This week will be tough without the star player, but Indiana does play 2 non-playoff teams. Gordon Hayward will be the star of the show this week.

It is actually insane the talent Detroit has along with the picks they also have. The pistons have Ja Morant, RJ Barrett, Cole Anthony, Naz Reid, and Richaun Holmes, along with good veterans like Klay Thompson, Jerami Grant, Marcus Morris, and Derrick Favors. The Pistons also have 3 picks in next years draft all from 3 current lottery teams. The team success is there right now, but the future of this team is amazing!

Welcome New GM Alvaro! The Rockets look good, but the team seems to have work that can be done. The Rockets could go and get more older players, or try and get younger, and it will be fun to see what they do. Jokic, Herro, and Tobias could be a great trio, but I really depends on what is put around them. Hardaway Jr, Redick, Satoransky, and Kleber are all role players playing very well for them, but the team does not feel like it is ready to compete just yet. This team looks like a definite playoff team as it is, but it will be fun to see the moves Alvaro makes.

Memphis has turned the season around since KAT came back from injury. Hield had a tremendous week while running point guard, and Memphis only has 2 people out this week. Memphis is currently on a 4 game win streak, and it really looks like they will make the playoffs if they keep this up. KAT has not been looking like himself from 3 so far, is it a slump or is it the new engine? Be on the lookout for the new look Grizzlies though!

New Orleans went from worst record in the league to the playoffs. Vucevic and Wall have been good and Hachimura has been a big piece in the success. Welcome New GM Skittles! Dallas is in an odd spot, there are a mix of players having both youth and veterans. Skittles said in a recent press conference "My plan for the near future is to ride out the next few weeks to see how legitimate the success of the team is." Cleveland has now lost 6 games in a row. The Cavs are waiting for their cornerstone, Jaren Jackson Jr to return as well as the additions of Kris Dunn and Zach Collins. Sexton has been a big storyline of the Cavs year and Aaron Gordon played very well, but has been dealing an injury since Week 3. The Cavs are rebuilding so this is not a setback to the franchise, and the team success earlier in the season is enough to show how good the team could be.

Paul George and Russell Westbrook are great players, but the lack of wings have hurt Boston this season. George has been on and off because of injuries and the backup to him is James Ennis. George just needs to get healthy and this team can make the playoffs. Pritchard has been a pleasant surprise, though the volume for him is not there yet. This will be a hard week with George out yet again and add Taj Gibson to that list too.

Miami is currently sitting at .500 and have some problems this week. Oubre and Beasley are now out joining Delon Wright. The young guys will likely have to man more of the load this week, but Miami like others is also rebuilding so it is not as big of a deal with injuries as others. This team has a roster I really like, it's hard to put it all together though with the injuries they've had, but this team could definitely make the playoffs this year. Winslow has now returned to the team, with Siakam being the only one out short-term. Toppin had a very good week this past week although they went 1-3. Toronto may be back on track now after going on a 1-11 stretch. Lamarcus Aldridge and Mitchell Robinson has hurt the Raptors, but Boucher has filled in very well as of late. Drummond has been a big loss for the Knicks, and GM Darko is hoping for a trade or buyout soon so that he can join the team again. Drummond is the 11th best player in the NLL, and the problem is the lack of depth at center with Thon Maker not being available. Mitchell is the scorer New York expected him to be and with Lonzo and Dragic passing well, it allows Mitchell to do his thing. The Knicks still have their 1st round pick and their biggest question mark is when does Drummond return.

Welcome New GM Matt Sandells! Orlando is in a rebuilding stage now, and Blake Griffin signing on a small contract really helps the Magic out. He is now tradable, which can help Orlando get more assets. Tyrese Haliburton started off slow, but started to pick up his pace before his injury. This is of no surprise, even JWalk knew this is what to expect. The Kings do not have anybody averaging over 11 ppg, and are getting outrebounded by 11 and they are not winning the turnover battle either. Sacramento have their 1st round pick this year, and with their current position in the standings are a lock to get a top prospect in this upcoming draft.
