Boston Celtics - Power Ranking

Week Rank Rating Team Record Comment
20 4 87 Bos 9-2 The Celts finish the season hot as the acquisition of Paul Millsap seemed to ignite something. They lost the first play-in game and now must face the New York Knicks for the 8th and final seed. It's going to be an exciting (and tense) for days for a team that looked DOA early in the season but finish as one of the hottest in the league.
19 12 62 Bos 7-4 Still battling for a playoff spot. Boston has been a much better team since the addition of Paul Milsap
18 15 40 Bos 5-6 Boston, on a 3 game win streak, have a very athletic and solid backcourt of Paul George and Russell Westbrook leading the way. They are sitting comfortably in the playoff position as the 9 seed with a good cushion between them and the 11th seeded team, but would like to push their way into a top 8 seed for sure.
15 11 59 Bos 7-4 Boston is fending off the Knicks with all they've got. A 4-game win streak is helping that effort.
14 12 56 Bos 7-4 Boston has everybody healthy now, it is a dream come true for them since they’ve had issues all season. With being fully healthy they won against the top team in the league too. The Celtics are really showing they should make the playoffs, the hard part about this is just getting a little bit lucky, with the teams in the playoff picture looking really good too. Look out for them to make an end of season push!
13 10 53 Bos 7-5 Boston had Valaciunas out, but he's back now and is one of the most valuable players. The addition of Paul Millsap is huge as the team has lacked a good player at forward position. They are in the playoff picture with the new play-in game this year, so staying there with everyone healthy is the goal.
12 12 54 Bos 7-5 Boston has played great as of late, but Valanciunas is injured now. This is awful for them since they are already low on depth at the big man position. The Celtics are just out of the playoffs so he is missing a very valuable time of the season. Hopefully he is able to come back to help them finish the season.
11 14 36 Bos 5-6 Boring deal: Tacko Fall for 5 gm points was the only deal by Boston this season. I think Fall deserve more than 5 points. He would be a great backup center for Boston.
10 19 29 Bos 4-6 Boston has underachieved this season. Partly due to injury and partly due to their inability to address holes in their front court. Still, things could turn around at the drop of a dime when you have PG and Russ leading the charge.
9 21 25 Bos 4-6 Boston is proof that you do actually need depth to have a good team. The Celtics facing the prospect of not making the playoffs despite having two bona fide stars and a quality big in the starting lineup. They just have almost nothing else.
8 16 36 Bos 5-6 Boston is hanging onto the last play-in spot in the East, spearheaded by their star-studded duo of Russell Westbrook and Paul George. For as talented of a duo as they are, their success in Boston together hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. Hopefully Stephen can find a way to unlock their full potential.
7 22 15 Bos 4-7 Boston to me is another team that has had pretty bad injury luck. Their top 3 has played very few games together, and once those guys get together, unlike the Jazz, they have a legit #1 in paul george. I feel confident that if they can get healthy, they can sneak into the playoffs and make a tough series for someone.
6 18 30 Bos 5-5 Paul George and Russell Westbrook are great players, but the lack of wings have hurt Boston this season. George has been on and off because of injuries and the backup to him is James Ennis. George just needs to get healthy and this team can make the playoffs. Pritchard has been a pleasant surprise, though the volume for him is not there yet. This will be a hard week with George out yet again and add Taj Gibson to that list too.
5 17 29 Bos 5-4 This Boston team is another team who has suffered injuries. First it was having JV out for much of the start of the season, and then if memory serves correct the GM found it hard to get PG and Westbrook on the floor at the same time due to untimely injuries. Finally the team is mostly healthy and awaiting the return of George Hill who will provide yet another boost to an already stacked backcourt. Perhaps that is why we have seen both George Hill, and more recently Payton Prichard being shopped on the trade block.
4 12 48 Bos 6-3 Russell Westbrook and Paul George are now healthy, but the Celtics lost to the Nets by over 50 points. The problem is the depth at the 3 and 4. Taj Gibson has started every game so far and is not contributing much on offense. He has only scored 5.5 ppg in 29 mpg. The SF position has been hard too with Paul George being hurt quite often, and James Ennis not contributing much when he takes his place. If the team can get healthy they will have a good chance to make the playoffs.
3 18 34 Bos 5-5 Boston have been battling. They started without Westbrook, but then have been without PG13 and still are without PG13...and that spells some disaster. Not to mention Valanciunas has been out too and when you're not even getting 2 of your "Big 3" on the court at the same time, let alone all three, how can you build a winning season around that? They have the tools, they just need them all to get on the damn floor together! To make matters worse, George Hill has been out a while and Theo Maledon missed this week too, but the impressive rookie will be back next week and fingers crossed the Celtics can start turning it around, and soon.
2 17 18 Bos 3-4 The Celtics are far lower than they should be, through no real fault of their own. They haven't been close to healthy yet. And week 3 is no exception. In week 2, they got to see Paul George and Russell Westbrook on the floor together, but they were still missing some crucial pieces. But now, Paul George is out for the week, and they've been without Jonas Valanciunas all three weeks. If they can get all of their stars healthy at once, Boston will be a tough matchup for most teams in the league.
1 24 1 Bos 1-3 PG13 was all by his lonesome, as Westy and Jonas were nursing injuries. When Russ is back, they should be a dynamic duo, but the rest of the team really needs to pick up the slack if the Celts plan on making the playoffs.
