Milwaukee and 10-0 and understandably they are the top the tree here as many experts expected, but were hoping the offseason moves would have potentially slowed a little. They haven't. Can you imagine this team with Donovan Mitchell in there, instead of Edwards? Edwards is looking like he'll be happy to shine Donovan's shoes one day and here's a team 10-0 with a literal God in Giannis, having given up Mitchell and still demolishing all comers. Why are they #1 over the other undefeated team? Maybe the extra game, maybe tougher opponents. Bottom line is, the Bucks are on the fast track to defending the title and we're yet to see where they might be stopped.

The Clippers after a "down year" are back at the very top of the West again. They remain one of, if not the deepest team in the league (well, other than the Bucks of course) and other than having been beaten by their likely Western title rivals, the Thunder, they too have not put a single foot wrong yet. Can you believe they have 5 guys in the top 60 ESPN? 6 in the top 80, 8 in the top 100? And Kevin Huerter is basically a stones throw away too. They're all young too, it's a dynasty that was missing it's Giannis...but Tatum is rising.

It was said recently that Charlotte seem to have lost a step...I'd hate to see what they were meant to be like if 9-1 and 3rd in the power rankings is losing a step! The game has taken a slight turn away from the middle man, but the Hornets have players all over the court in spades and another 6 guiys inside the top 100 ESPN. The rest are definite role players, but they know their role and they are effective for many various reasons at each position so the Hornets look just as potent from where I sit as ever. The cash cow came in over the summer, and they now hold one of the largest luxury tax bills in the league, but they are going to ride that cash deep into the playoffs again this year.

OKC didn't like being bundled out of the playoffs in 7 games, again, in the conference finals, again, and decided the next day that it wasn't going to be for lack of trying that they make the Finals in 2021. They went and got Lebron, "mortgaging their future" to do so, and 9-1 behind an even next level Kawhi and Lebron making everyone better looks like the gamble is working for now. They're not as deep ranking wise as some of the others, but they are 8 deep on 2k players at least which makes a difference despite what they're doing in the NBA. The line up looks rock solid, with even Danny Green looking spry and effective and if they're healthy, you're going to have to come and play against them to get over the line because they will hit you on defense.

Brooklyn are 9-3 which is a great start given they've already had injuries and may not actually get their entire best unit on the court all year, depending on Caris' health. Wiz knew this year was coming and keeping the family together was going to cost. It's a lux bill made in hell, if he keeps it all together, but could come down to about the Hornets level reasonably quickly if required. Curry is, as Curry does and his resurgence is the backbone to the Nets title hopes.

Philly are the only other undefeated team going round now, but they're down in 6th because other than a thrilling 1 point defeat of the Thunder, and defeating the Hornets in the 1st game of the season, the big wins have come against teams with very few wins themselves and that's how the scaling has occurred. Perhaps if they'd have played 10 games though, that would be different. This year is a little different where we're not all on the equal games played! That doesn't take anything away from Philly though. They are undefeated because they have an Allstar line up starting and a couple of past Allstars on the bench, and they've been able to cover for the injured weeks of guys like Lillard and Gay already and still remain undefeated! They're just that good. Harden, is just that good.

The Mavs changed GMs last week despite coming out well above where they were expecting to be and long term GM Smokey having started to make moves to look to the future ahead of the right now. It hasn't mattered yet, 8-3, and GM Haydo has taken the reins to a team that has a plethora of directional opportunities. He's also taken to the GM thing here like a fish to water and the Mavs, thankfully, look like they're in great hands to make a transition into whatever Haydo sees for them going forward. They are laden with talent, and the trade phones are open to mix and match.

For a while there, everyone was saying INDIANA, but they have lost a couple since then. Doncic is the reason and Doncic is the way. Sheed made a bold call to move up a couple spots to take him at the expense of a future pick too and no one has even blinked an eyelid back to that deal since. They unfortunately suffered the loss of CJ McCollum for the long term, but hopefully back, which is definitely a slowing factor, but for now they are enjoying some mixed results and keeping on, keeping on to keep in the playoff hunt until that day he returns and maybe they all start screaming INDIANA again.

7-5 for Houston and that might be a little tale as to how they have gone this year period. One minute, they're pushing the Bucks to within 7 points and the next they're being blown out by Portland missing Lauri Markkanen. The Rockets have a fine bill of health and the top ranked player in the NBA now, and he's making a case to be the same here too. Nikola Jokic is how they will live and die with the rest of the guys being good players, but not playoff leaders. The Joker stays healthy, they'll continue to push into the playoffs in the West which is the weaker of the conferences as a whole. I like the backcourt of Herro/Redick/Sato/Hardaway too, it's potent, and will hopefully be unlocked for it's full potential soon.

The Pistons are 6-3 and clinging on to that original hot start of 5-0. What happened? Not much, they came in contact with Brooklyn and Philadelphia then leaked one to the Knicks too, but did start the season beating a heavily depleted Phoenix, Atlanta, Golden State and Minnesota, with only Utah being a current playoff team otherwise. So, maybe that, and coupled with missing some big men, the start was all they could have really hoped for and they're levelling out a little now? They have a great young team and are sorely missing Klay Thompson, who would have projected this bunch into a top level contender. As such, Grant slowly growing meshing with Ayton, Morris and Ja is a pretty rock solid team anyway, but can it be enough?

Don't look now, but something this going on in Miami. The no longer so new GM has got these guys on the right path finally and 11th in the power rankings is great! The team is genuinely intriguing with their mix of youth and true veteran producers and we'd expect the vets to all be well and truly shopped once the 9th week rolls around, but until then they're surprising some teams with their blend of defensive prowess. It also helps that they have a couple of the better showing rookies in tow toom after making great choices with Precious and Bane and really building themselves a solid core and asset base. As a contender, I'll sure be looking for ways to pry away some vets in the coming weeks.

The Irving trade has been a raging success so far. But I thought he killed his team doing it? Not at all, and Kyrie is going all out and allowing Ben Simmons to use his freakish athleticism elsewhere on the court. The overall team depth has been a bit of a struggle thus far which is why they're only 5-6, but it's not for lack of Kyrie. Fournier, Saric and Robert Williams have all missed time, and JaSean Tate has been their 4th highest ESPN ranked player. That's saying something. They have some room to grow. They have some potential to trade. They just need to get active and get out there and work those phones. The Wizards are right there on that brink.

SA were off to a slow start, because AD was off to a slow start, but they're rounding into form now and we always knew they would. 13th is far too low for last years Western Conference champs and the roster is arguably better this year round to boot! Davis is POTW (yet to be confirmed) for week 3, and so he should be. The man has been maligned. Unfortunately he's also now dealing with a niggle that could hamper him most of the year on and on/off basis, but the Spurs will push on through. Expect them to be a riser from here.

Toronto's team on paper is a really good mix of veteran leaders that all fit together nicely and should produce a high playoff finish. But, they are 5-5 because LMA has been out a lot, Beal has joined him on the sidelines at times, Mitch Robinson hasn't missed time...yet...but he's about to be out for a number of weeks and while Chris Boucher has been on the rise, he's still an engine away from really producing with 2k and their inability to update athleticism and tendencies mid season. They're holding on right now, and they won't go away. They don't own their pick, so there's no option to go full backwards, but maybe if the losing continues some of the other vets will become more readily available.

Utah have started the season probably under what anyone would have been expecting and their GM that built the team left after a clerical error meant that their hard cap rule cancelled out a signing of Austin Rivers. The new GM is finding his feet we assume, it is a lot to take in, but really the team was left in really good shape other than the little luxury bill. It will be interesting to see if some rotastion and coaching changes might spice up the line up or maybe they will look to move some of the pieces to make the team their own. A deal for Fultz also fell through from a clerical standpoint due to extension signing, but that's not to say that it's dead in the water...just delayed. The Jazz can be better!

Ben is juggling GM life with baby making life...well, baby having life, and for that reason we haven't seen heaps of one of the leagues favs. We wish him all the best for this precious time. The team however is needing more of a rudder. They ,oved DeRozan, which was flagged as a likely option, but the pieces they got in haven't moved the bar enough to make them abouit the same middling team. Bledsoe is taking some hits and Bertans isn't yet living up to the money. Harris however is now one of the premier shooters in the league and is having a career year!

Darko has been one of the most vocal GMs this year and we love it. He has a Julius Randle passion, and well derserved, finally. The man is in NBA Allstar form and the ratings are rising as they should. He made a big move for Drummond, on top of the Mitchell acquisition which was a stroke of genius IMO, but now Drummond is shelved for completely unbasketball related reasons which is going to be frustrating as all hell for a team that's on the playoff cusp and needing all the active play from their best players they can get. We hope Andre gets sorted sooner rather than later for you Darko.

Boston have been battling. They started without Westbrook, but then have been without PG13 and still are without PG13...and that spells some disaster. Not to mention Valanciunas has been out too and when you're not even getting 2 of your "Big 3" on the court at the same time, let alone all three, how can you build a winning season around that? They have the tools, they just need them all to get on the damn floor together! To make matters worse, George Hill has been out a while and Theo Maledon missed this week too, but the impressive rookie will be back next week and fingers crossed the Celtics can start turning it around, and soon.

Not to say the Suns don't have some genuine stars, but they would probably be really happy with a .500 record having opened the season with NONE of their big 3, and only getting 3 games out of KD in 4 weeks (of course, at this time it's 1 week in 3). No matter which way you spin it, that's a real tough pill. But the positive as I said is, they aren't sitting 2-8 or something and when they get all the guys on the court together we all know what they will be capable of. KD looks like he might make it 4th week on the sidelines next week unfortunately, but Penny, we're rooting for him to play soon as no one deserves this!

The Pels made a few nearly "all-in" type deals this offseason which raised some eyebrows as it moved away from the rebuild rhetoric. Is it too early? Did they have the assets to make that work? Do they have the further assets and conviction to keep turning them over into winning pieces to really compliment? Do they even need to when Vuc, Wall and Gordon are all on 3 more years at least and should provide steady veteran leadership while the other pieces catch up? A playoff birth would be a great result, but it's not the end of the world either way if it turns into a continued rebuild with those guys in tow, or it happens and the guys are all still growing regardless. Interesting times in New Orleans.

Brayden's faith in Collin Sexton is prevailing right now and this writer for one has to tip the hat because I was not on board. Of course, he's playing the 2 guard which makes a s*** tonne more sense really, but he's a walking bucket and the Cavs while not winning, aren't feeling the "after Lebron" effects at all when you look at the way they remade that roster with youth and talent, and they haven't even seen JJJ on the court yet! It's all coming together nicely for one of the most storied NLL teams in the new post Lebron era, and they look to be in great hands of Brayden.

Greeny is an old hat at this, but this is still not a place we have seen him in very often. That said, maybe we won't need to for too much longer as the grass is growing in this field. Wiseman for mine was always the EASY #1 choice in this draft, particularly when you look at what he can/could/will do in 2k even let alone the big leagues, and he's come out firing for the Lakers (when playing). They unfortunately had to part with Jerami Grant before his big break out, but they at least got something for him and other S&T acquisition the year before, Terry Rozier, is busting out all over the place. Not to mention Garland! There's still a lot of work left in LA as evidenced by where they are on this PR, but they are definitely looking like a future team now.

Is this about where we all expected the Warriors to be? Possibly. They retained Clarkson and Bogdan, but Bogdan has sat this year so far which is a kick in the teeth. Bam is doing all he can, and Clarkson and Anderson too for that matter, but the team was always in a bit of flux. Tim though is playing the patient game which is great. He has some nice pieces and he has some time to develop them and this is the time to grow your wealth for a team that was starved of attention for far too long.

Have you heard? Al Jefferson is on the block! He's coming out of retirement and putting his name on the block for the Bulls, every day it seems. Oh, and Al Horford is too. Likely to draw much more interest. The Bulls have been active as can be this year so far and have already made some moves dumping Buddy Hield out for multiple assets which is a boon despite losing the scoring prowess. DLo has been offered up multiple times but is still here, but is now out for a number of weeks which probably hampers his value too...much to Shams' dismay. The Bulls are clinging but the new GM is switched on big time and won't be too bothered by a bottom finish with his own pick to add to the already blossoming young talent they drafted last year.

Can Memphis catch a break now? Please? KAT has been out multiple weeks and looks like he could be a prospect to be so any given week really with the turmoil surrounding him in real life. Dude has had a rough trot. The loss of Marcus Smart can't really be understated it seems and they have turned to an offensive star in Hield to try and hep right the ship. The price was right for Hield in the situation and he should thrive for the Grizz who hope to push up from down here where they never expected to be. COVID is a cruel mistress.

The Nuggets have waved the white flag and it has not been a lot of fun going 1-9 so far. Conley is missing games, to add to the season long injury to Isaac, yet again, and now Plumlee and Azubuike are out too! They simply cannot catch a break and the guys that are left are not able to hold up to the opponents. Quickley has been an exciting positive note though and Simons looks like he might be turning a corner too, so it's not all doom and gloom in Denver as they look to shuffle the deck and regroup.

Minnesota are truly in struggle town. Where the hell is the Love? Kevin remains on the sidelines and that doesn't help anything, at all. He's not getting trade value, he's not helping wins, he's just sitting their eating $100 bills for breakfast and washing them down with the souls of the Minnesota fanbase. Add in Nance's injury, and what is looking like a regression from Devonte and Duncan, oh and Bradley is out again, and it's not a fun time. On the plus side, they too drafted nicely with Jaden McDaniels already showing some signs in a rotation and the 2nd rounders Flynn, Carey and Terry all ripping up the GLeague. Hopefully they can come into the big time soon, get some boosts and help right this ship.

Orlando are down in the doldrums. They're still waiting on the debut of Nic Claxton, and acquired the season ended Thomas Bryant, but had hoped that Blake Griffin would have shown enough to entice even the cheapest of buyer, but he's now looking like he's going to sit out too until he and management resolve their differences. That is a tough sell, though. Derrick White missed time, but is finally back, Beverley too, and Sterling Brown was a nice find from their Rights pile. Hang in there, Leb.

Portland are 29th...Clay...what? 1-10? What is going on! This roster is in actual fact far too talented to be down here, so the coaching needs a tweak for sure. DeAndre Jordan is a fine man mountain to sit in the middle, Lauri in theory is the perfect partner to him, but he's not getting enough ball, and Wiggins/Barrett/Coby with Hunter, Reid and a rejuvenated Portis is not talent to be sneezed at. The teams immediately above them would love to have that kind of arsenal. Clay, you've done nicely to put the boys on the park, now go out there and make them play like they should be!

At one stage, someone unfairly suggested it might be a while before we see the Kings score over 60...which in part was due to watching a 90 point demolition by the 76ers. But they have been better than that game since, at least pushing teams and the veterans must have had a real hard chat in the lockroom about putting their best foot forward. Don't get me wrong, I think even JWalk would have thought he'd be close to this spot, if not right in this spot this year, which is all part of the rebuild process, but it has been brutal at times and we hope that from here on out we see more competitive games from some minor settings tweaks so that we don't have to witness that type of thing again and have to get excited about it and write things. On other notes, JWalk has done some masterful work flipping assets over and over and built up some worth and he's the newest member of the NLL admin team! Keep at it JWalk, we see what you're doing.
