Houston Rockets - Power Ranking

Week Rank Rating Team Record Comment
20 11 64 Hou 7-4 The Rockets boast a "new" GM who actually made it for a good deal of time. GM PatrikShehu looks like a good catch, even if he did ride Jokic for a good deal of the season. The Rockets did finish 44-28 and really do have a good chance of making waves in the West with all the injuries. Good luck to the Rockets. 3,2,1...ugh you get it.
19 7 79 Hou 9-3 Jokic is carrying a good enough team to near elite levels. Should he be the MVP? The Joker is averaging 25/17/4
18 10 67 Hou 8-3 The Joker led rockets have been a very fun team to follow this year and have continued that story as of late. During the middle of the year, it was mainly the Nikola Jokic show. This team went as far as he could take them on a nightly basis, and the dark horse MVP candidate was carrying them on his back. However as of late, thanks in part to a big time mid season trade, there has been some weight taken off of Jokic’s shoulders. Guys like Marcus Morris, Tyler Herro, and Jerami Grant have been very good secondary options in giving Jokic some relief on the offensive end and consistency with putting the ball in the cup. This team is deep enough and plays good enough defense to make a serious playoff run, because they’re one of the better offensive teams and can get extremely hot from three-point land for a stretch of games. If they can stay healthy and put the pieces together, a Western Conference Finals birth is not out of the question for Houston.
15 8 68 Hou 7-4 Nikola Jokic remains one of the league's best bigs (probably THE best) but the supporting cast hasn't made the most of his dominance.
14 6 72 Hou 7-3 Jerami Grant is healthy this week, so we will see what comes of the Tobias Harris trade now. Jokic will always be a great player, he just needs to be more of a focal point of the teams offense to see the best production. The depth is overlooked with this team as they have 10 players in the Top 270 of the NBA. FA will be big with a lot of players being on expiring contracts this offseason!
13 8 68 Hou 7-3 The Rockets have been a solid team this year, I feel like if they could get Jokic more involved with playmaking they could be better than they are right now. Jerami Grant will debut next week too, Tyler Herro not taking the next step into stardom has held the team back a little, but it is still early.
12 6 67 Hou 7-2 The Rockets recently made a trade to help their depth getting Jerami Grant and Marcus Morris while shipping away Tobias Harris. Jokic needs to be more involved in their offense to see the best success for the team, he is only averaging 4.1 apg. The team is going in the right direction with the new front office though.
11 7 74 Hou 8-2 Nobody active here but Houston is doing well in autopilot. Let's move to the next!
10 10 58 Hou 7-3 Houston welcomes yet another a new GM. Inactivity from the previous front office has a very good Rockets team underachieving. Curious to see if ShayHoops will come in and shake things up in pursuit of a championship.
9 16 37 Hou 5-6 The Rockets are likely one premiere guard away from being a top team in the west. Nikola Jokic needs a partner in the backcourt.
8 18 29 Hou 4-6 The Rockets have a losing record... yet have the 5th seed in the west? Jokic is carrying the team in a big way, as he has been ever since being traded from OKC. Outside of him, it starts to get a little leas certain. Building around their star will be the major goal for Houston to take the next step.
7 11 44 Hou 5-6 The Rockets are starting to shed their label of "The Jokics" as a resurgent Tobias Harris, Tyler Herro, and Tim Hardaway Jr are all at above a 15 PER. Their recent 3 game skid was against all equal or better teams, and they're still firmly in the playoff hunt in the West.
6 13 42 Hou 5-6 Welcome New GM Alvaro! The Rockets look good, but the team seems to have work that can be done. The Rockets could go and get more older players, or try and get younger, and it will be fun to see what they do. Jokic, Herro, and Tobias could be a great trio, but I really depends on what is put around them. Hardaway Jr, Redick, Satoransky, and Kleber are all role players playing very well for them, but the team does not feel like it is ready to compete just yet. This team looks like a definite playoff team as it is, but it will be fun to see the moves Alvaro makes.
5 20 23 Hou 4-8 Houston is about right where you'd expect them coming into the season. This team will go as far as Nikola Jokic will take them, of course with sidekick Tobias Harris in tow. This might be a team to watch as we approach the trade deadline with a GM who is making his season debut. Will the team look to bring in win now pieces to bolster the current repertoire or will they stand pat and look more towards the future.
4 14 42 Hou 6-6 Houston has had everyone play great, but are still only at .500. The Rockets rely heavily on 3-pointers and Tyler Herro's improvement will have a big effect on the team. Houston played San Antonio this past week, and they lost, but the bench only scored 8 points through the whole game. The top of the team is good, but the bench needs to show up to have a compete.
3 9 53 Hou 7-5 7-5 for Houston and that might be a little tale as to how they have gone this year period. One minute, they're pushing the Bucks to within 7 points and the next they're being blown out by Portland missing Lauri Markkanen. The Rockets have a fine bill of health and the top ranked player in the NBA now, and he's making a case to be the same here too. Nikola Jokic is how they will live and die with the rest of the guys being good players, but not playoff leaders. The Joker stays healthy, they'll continue to push into the playoffs in the West which is the weaker of the conferences as a whole. I like the backcourt of Herro/Redick/Sato/Hardaway too, it's potent, and will hopefully be unlocked for it's full potential soon.
2 8 53 Hou 6-2 Some may find it surprising to see Houston this high up. After all, they're not unbelievably loaded with talent like teams 1-7 on the list are. But the Rockets have The Joker. And what more do you need than that? Averaging 30 points, 18 boards, 6 assists, and over two blocks per game, Jokic is a one-man wrecking crew. But they've been getting solid contributions across the board. This is a team that is clicking. And they could easily remain a top contender in the West.
1 13 16 Hou 2-2 This is the team that Jokic could. Coupled with the triple-H's, the Rockets will be a team no one wants to meet in round 1, since Joker could drop 50 and 20 on them.
