Washington Wizards - Power Ranking

Week Rank Rating Team Record Comment
20 7 84 Was 9-2 In a shocking move, the Wizards shitcanned Gm Jmeyer (John Mayer?) right before the playoffs. Why? The team is hot, sizzling lately as things have gelled. But team brass didn't love the GM's lackadaisical approach to management, so they gave him the heave-ho. Can new GM GainertheTrainer will, um, muscle his way into the catbird seed and guide this team to postseason glory?
19 3 102 Was 11-1 Unlike his NBA counterpart, NLL Ben Simmons has no issues scoring the ball (currently avg 16.7 ppg and shooting 70% from the FT line)
18 4 92 Was 10-2 At the fourth slot, the wizards come in and are shooting up the rankings. Led by Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons, this team has been playing exceptionally well lately and is getting hot at the right time. A team that a month ago, executives around the league believed would be a low seeded Cinderella just trying to make the play in, now are trying to assert themselves and make a run at home court advantage. Can they pull a rabbit out of the hot and be a dark horse team to push for a second round or possible Eastern Conference Finals appearance?
15 7 71 Was 8-4 Washington has had a couple of surprising wins, one over the Thunder and another against the rising Pacers. But they've dropped the last three games they've had against contenders so not everything's been perfect.
14 7 68 Was 7-4 Washington acquired Norman Powell at the deadline to try and go all in to make the playoffs. With the duo of Kyrie and Simmons I can see why you would, especially with both of them healthy. Robert Williams has been a pleasant surprise too, with the big man position needing to be filled and he did just that. With the trade for Powell they gave up two young guys who were not in the rotation, Garrett Temple and their 2021 1st round pick.
13 9 61 Was 6-4 Washington is now tied for the 6th seed in the East with the Pistons, after passing the Hawks this past week. This is big with the new play-in game rules, if they can lock into the 6th seed they will not have to worry about winning those games.
12 10 60 Was 6-4 Bringing Kyrie in has brought success to Washington putting them in the playoffs. The role players have really improved, Cauley-Stein and Williams have been great big men. Kyrie and Simmons are both top 30 players and Kyrie is one of the nominees for MVP.
11 10 67 Was 7-4 Quiet only good deal: Frank Mason for gm points. Just before the FA day Wizard decided to send Frank Mason to New York for 10 gm points, and Frank is not in the league right now.
10 8 67 Was 7-5 Wizards are holding on for dear life to that 8th seed. They’ve gone 5-5 over their last 10, which may not be good enough given the 9th seed Knicks are winners of 3 straight.
9 15 40 Was 5-6 The Wizards are being carried by one of the best backcourt in the NLL, but held back by perhaps the most underwhelming frontcourts.
8 10 51 Was 6-4 The Wizards have put together a rock-solid recipe for success, surrounding Kyrie and Ben Simmons with shooters and rim-runners. They’re top 2 players are just about as good as anyone’s and come playoff time, this is a squad that has the potential to make some noise, so long as they can stay healthy.
7 13 38 Was 5-4 Washington can't seem to stay healthy for an extended period of time, as Simmons has missed quite a few games this season. They are very much a top-heavy squad, based around him, kyrie, and fournier. Simmons at PF is interesting but I wonder how a look of him at PG and kyrie at SG would look?
6 7 54 Was 6-3 Kyrie has taken this team to another level this season, at first there was uncertainty of the two "point guards" being able to work, but they have exceeded expectations. Simmons has been on and off this season with injuries, but when both Irving and Simmons play they look fantastic. Willie Cauley-Stein and Robert Williams have both helped this team a lot and provided front court help. As long as the duo's health is fine, the team will be fine.
5 21 22 Was 3-6 Washington sits at 11-9 and in the 8th spot out East. This is a great indicator of how close the middle of the road teams sit as we reach the 1/3rd mark of the season as the team has an identical record to the 9th ranked ATL squad. This team really needs some additional pieces around Kyrie and Ben, specifically to prop the team up when one of the stars misses time, which should be expected. Robert Williams continues to ascend as he received yet another bump in the latest 2k ratings update from 77 up to 79. If he can crack the 80 mark it'll be yet another young star waiting to blossum for the Wizards.
4 16 35 Was 4-6 Washington is very good when they have Kyrie and Simmons playing together, but the team has seen small injuries with Simmons and their third option, Evan Fournier this year that have hurt their record. The Wizards can definitely compete, but the nagging injuries may end up hurting their chemistry. Kyrie has been amazing so far, and played in every single game, the trade in the offseason definitely looked good so far with Irving not having any health issues.
3 12 47 Was 5-6 The Irving trade has been a raging success so far. But I thought he killed his team doing it? Not at all, and Kyrie is going all out and allowing Ben Simmons to use his freakish athleticism elsewhere on the court. The overall team depth has been a bit of a struggle thus far which is why they're only 5-6, but it's not for lack of Kyrie. Fournier, Saric and Robert Williams have all missed time, and JaSean Tate has been their 4th highest ESPN ranked player. That's saying something. They have some room to grow. They have some potential to trade. They just need to get active and get out there and work those phones. The Wizards are right there on that brink.
2 9 52 Was 5-3 The Wizards faltered a bit in week 2, dropping two close ones against Chicago and Phoenix. Week three could be equally rough with Ben Simmons out. Kyrie has been incredible thus far, averaging over 32 points per game and shooting 55% from three-point territory, but it would be shocking if they didn't take at least one loss in week 3.
1 7 31 Was 3-1 The Kyrie-Ben combo is playing very well in Washington. The Wiz were just a bucket away from being undefeated. This is a team on the rise with lots of youth and talent.
