Memphis Grizzlies - Power Ranking

Week Rank Rating Team Record Comment
20 15 46 Mem 6-5 Memphis is just kinda meh. Mehmphis. They are the middle of the pack with no huge stars now that KAT is gone. They are also fighting for their lives after losing the first play-in game to the Blazers by a lot. We'll see if their postseason dreams survive very soon.
19 15 51 Mem 6-4 The Aaron Gordon trade still hasn’t worked out quite as well as you’d hope, however the Grizz have won 4 straight and are a lock for the play in tournament
18 20 23 Mem 4-7 Man, Buddy Heild has been CARRYING this team lately. Another 40+ point game this week, as he tries as hard as he possibly can to will this team into the postseason. He’s doing as good a job as he can, as they sort currently 7 in the west, but man, where has the bell been for Buddy?
15 19 38 Mem 5-7 The Grizzlies were trending down even before the deadline. Now that they sold a couple of major pieces, their loss total is going to increase quite a bit.
14 18 35 Mem 5-7 Memphis made a big splash at the trade deadline, moving KAT and getting a haul in return including 2 1sts, Jaren Jackson Jr, Kelly Oubre and Kentavious Caldwell Pope. I feel it is a great return and JJJ could be the new centerpiece of the franchise. This helps them expand their assets too, which was consolidated in KAT before.
13 17 33 Mem 5-6 Memphis is now 3 games ahead of the 8th seed for a little breathing room, but what they want is to be out of the play-in game so they do not have to rely on 2 games for their whole season. The additions this season have been very good, and the Aaron Gordon trade, which received lots of backlash, could be a big reason they make the playoffs.
12 23 18 Mem 4-6 Memphis has looked good ever since adding Buddy Hield and are in the playoffs as of now as the 6th seed. Hield has shot an insane 54% from 3 for the Grizzlies. Aaron Gordon and Norman Powell have been added to the roster since too, the team looks good right now.
11 17 35 Mem 5-5 Fine deal: Adding Greyson Allen and Monte Morris was a good move. Memphis lose their starter but Allen and Morris are in constant way up in every Players ratings update. Also a First round pick is always a good asset to upgrade if necessary. But… Not so good deal: Buddy Hield is not a very good upgrade., but ok. He is scoring 19 per game but eating 24 millions...
10 14 49 Mem 6-5 The addition of Buddy Hield in February and the return of Karl Anthony Towns has made the Grizzlies a formidable opponent night in and night out. Towns in particular has looked damn near superhuman in weeks 9 & 10 (25/12 in that span)
9 7 69 Mem 8-4 The win-now push was stalled by KAT being out for the start of the season, but even with him back, Memphis' push to the top of the West has been a rocky climb. They're a mere 6-4 in their last 10 games.
8 8 69 Mem 8-3 Don’t look now, but the Grizzlies are making some noise. Another team that struggled toward the beginning of the year, they’ve taken off in a big way, now that Karl-Anthkny Towns is healthy and dominant as always. Memphis was Gallo land last year, but A_Aron has turned this team into an uprising team full of promise.
7 8 64 Mem 8-3 Our first western conference team in the rankings, MEM is still below .500 but expect that to change soon. KAT is playing out of his mind, and Marcus Smart recently came back and provided an immediate defensive boost, holding all 4 teams last week to under 100 pts. Hield is also providing the scoring punch they were looking for, getting 19 ppg since coming over.
6 14 41 Mem 6-4 Memphis has turned the season around since KAT came back from injury. Hield had a tremendous week while running point guard, and Memphis only has 2 people out this week. Memphis is currently on a 4 game win streak, and it really looks like they will make the playoffs if they keep this up. KAT has not been looking like himself from 3 so far, is it a slump or is it the new engine? Be on the lookout for the new look Grizzlies though!
5 22 19 Mem 4-6 Yet another team that has battled injuries all season. Missing KAT was of course more massive than the rest, but it is tough to miss key contributors like Marcus Smart, and less so Shake Milton on a regular basis. The Grizzlies seem to be hitting their stride now as the team has won 4 of their last 5 games including a win over the SA Spurs. I am keeping my eye on the Grizzlies as a team who might make a mid season push to playoff contention once they can get their team back to full health.
4 26 -1 Mem 2-7 KAT is back, and in the final game of Memphis' Week 4, they pulled off a win vs the top team in the West. The Grizzlies are down two of their best guards right now, but newly acquired Buddy Hield has shot lights out from 3 so far. Memphis only sits 3 games out from the playoffs and the return of KAT and entrance of Hield could possibly lead them there.
3 25 2 Mem 2-8 Can Memphis catch a break now? Please? KAT has been out multiple weeks and looks like he could be a prospect to be so any given week really with the turmoil surrounding him in real life. Dude has had a rough trot. The loss of Marcus Smart can't really be understated it seems and they have turned to an offensive star in Hield to try and hep right the ship. The price was right for Hield in the situation and he should thrive for the Grizz who hope to push up from down here where they never expected to be. COVID is a cruel mistress.
2 26 -3 Mem 1-6 If Chicago is leading in the Injury Power Rankings, Memphis can't be far behind. They're actually ahead of Chicago this week with seven guys out. The big one is Karl-Anthony Towns, and he has yet to play this season. Another one that's going to hurt is Marcus Smart. Fortunately Towns should be back in action next week, so the Grizzlies may be able to put together a few wins soon.
1 20 5 Mem 1-3 This team will likely have a lot more bite when KAT returns, but for now they are struggling to find legitimate scoring options. Shake has been erratic and no one else seems to want to score. Too many role players but no one wants to be a star.
