Power Ranking - 1 week down, 19 to go

Feb, 04 (Week 1) - Early on, the elite is the West, but they only make up 3 of the top 10 teams. Quite a few surprises with some unexpected teams in both the top and bottom of the rankings. If I didn't pick on your team enough... there's always next time. [pennywise ]

Rank Rating Team Record Comment
1 (19) 42 LAC LA Clippers 4-0
Den 94, LAC 116 W
GS 92, LAC 118 W
LAC 130, Sac 79 W
LAC 131, Bkn 122 W
Right now, this is THE best team in the league. They have 7...yes, 7 players in the NLL top 100. They have Kemba killing teams off the bench, while being snubbed for early MVP watch. I called it in the previews that this was going to be a better team than people were giving credit... week 1 sorta showed I was right, so... told ya so....LOL
2 (5) 41 OKC Oklahoma City Thunder 4-0
NO 64, OKC 106 W
Min 91, OKC 126 W
OKC 101, Orl 84 W
OKC 119, Utah 111 W
Power to the West! Lebron and Kawhi are a dynamic duo that are leaving cities trashed in their wake. There are a few challenges in the near future, but they have a relatively easy 1st third of their season.
3 (18) 40 Ind Indiana Pacers 4-0
Ind 116, Pho 91 W
Bos 91, Ind 114 W
Ind 109, Chi 98 W
Cle 88, Ind 116 W
Early fruits born from GM Sheed's offseason labors... Doncic finally has a supporting cast and is making the most of it. He's the best PG in the league. They did get the luck of the draw, playing week 1 opponents that were hit with the injury bug.
4 (7) 38 Tor Toronto Raptors 4-0
Den 119, Tor 122 W
Tor 120, Bos 85 W
Tor 108, Mem 85 W
Chi 87, Tor 104 W
Toronto made some offseason moves that seems to have helped the team chemistry, as they breezed through their first week. Granted, they played teams with injured stars and overall weaker teams, but they took advantage and beat the teams they were supposed to.
5 (4) 36 Mil Milwaukee Bucks 3-0
Mil 145, Sac 93 W
Mil 119, SA 74 W
Mil 124, Orl 76 W
If you want to watch competitive games, please don't turn on the Bucks game. They lead the league in point differential with almost a +50!!!! They also have one of the best players in the game in the Greek Freak.
6 (10) 32 Dal Dallas Mavericks 3-1
Dal 119, Hou 93 W
LAL 103, Dal 113 W
Mia 92, Dal 85 L
Sac 54, Dal 111 W
GM smokey's offseason checklist... flip roster- check. Smokey really is a great GM, as he continues to shuffle his team, but they still end up on the top half of the standings. Bagley has been playing lights out, and you gotta wonder how he snuck so much talent away from the Pels.
7 (27) 31 Was Washington Wizards 3-1
SA 87, Was 104 W
Was 135, Den 71 W
Was 95, Utah 97 L
Was 109, NY 105 W
The Kyrie-Ben combo is playing very well in Washington. The Wiz were just a bucket away from being undefeated. This is a team on the rise with lots of youth and talent.
8 (2) 30 Bkn Brooklyn Nets 3-1
Atl 103, Bkn 125 W
Bkn 120, Utah 113 W
Chi 73, Bkn 120 W
LAC 131, Bkn 122 L
Curry from three... every team's GM better get used to hearing that happen all year. The only way it won't is if he gets injured. This team is pretty stacked and has been making headlines with how bad they blew a few teams out.
9 (1) 30 Cha Charlotte Hornets 3-1
Phi 124, Cha 116 L
Por 76, Cha 92 W
SA 88, Cha 108 W
Cha 99, NO 67 W
With their only loss being to Philly, the Hornets are looking to repeat their success from last year. Joel, K-por and the gang are still overpowering the lesser foes. We would like to see if this keeps up against the rest of the elite of the East.
10 (16) 27 Det Detroit Pistons 3-0
Det 103, Pho 83 W
Det 94, Min 73 W
Det 101, GS 84 W
Shock team of the year so far. Detroit without their best player is undefeated. Great team ball and lots of people scoring has contributed to this, with Ayton leading the way. Oh, Ja and Jerami also playing very well.
11 (3) 27 Phi Philadelphia 76ers 3-0
Phi 124, Cha 116 W
Phi 119, NY 107 W
NO 97, Phi 115 W
Harden...blah blah.... Harden... oh, and Lillard. Trading for Rudy was a big plus, as he's meshed well with the starters. However, there are injuries on the horizon, so don't expect this undefeated streak to last past week 2.
12 (25) 18 Atl Atlanta Hawks 2-2
Atl 93, Orl 80 W
Atl 103, Bkn 125 L
Por 88, Atl 126 W
Hou 163, Atl 153 L
One of the surprise teams so far, the Hawks have benefited from the emergence of Eric Bledsoe as an elite player... wait, did I hear that correctly??? Turner, Harris and Bertrans are playing well together to make the Hawks, dare I say it, dangerous.
  13 (13) 16 Hou Houston Rockets 2-2
Hou 102, Min 111 L
Dal 119, Hou 93 L
Bos 89, Hou 113 W
Hou 163, Atl 153 W
This is the team that Jokic could. Coupled with the triple-H's, the Rockets will be a team no one wants to meet in round 1, since Joker could drop 50 and 20 on them.
  14 (14) 16 Utah Utah Jazz 2-2
Cle 114, Utah 116 W
Bkn 120, Utah 113 L
Was 95, Utah 97 W
OKC 119, Utah 111 L
Without a GM to start the season, Utah played well, but now they will be out Booker, with Fultz already down for the year. They are potentially a playoff team, but injuries could drop them in time.
15 (30) 15 Mia Miami Heat 2-2
Mia 92, Dal 85 W
Cle 93, Mia 71 L
SA 97, Mia 90 L
Mem 68, Mia 84 W
not a bad start for a team that was expected to be dead last in their division. Besides Allen, no one is really overly standing out, but they are playing team ball, so maybe the can continue to win, to the dismay of their GM, who wants a chance to draft Cunningham.
16 (22) 7 LAL LA Lakers 1-3
LAL 91, Chi 79 W
NY 117, LAL 108 L
LAL 103, Dal 113 L
LAL 77, Pho 87 L
The Lake-show was desperately needing Wood in week 1. Rozier and Wiseman looked great for the rebuilding Lakers, but GM Greeny decided to put some bulletin board fodder in the press for the Suns rematch. This is more of the expected outcome of LA on a weekly basis until the young guys improve.
17 (15) 7 NY New York Knicks 1-2
NY 117, LAL 108 W
Phi 119, NY 107 L
Was 109, NY 105 L
There is too much talent for this team to go below .500. And then they will have a rash of injuries to deal with in week 2. GM Darko was swinging for the fences with all the trades, so a weak ground-out to the pitcher will not go over well with the fan base. The Knicks cannot fall too far behind in a stacked East.
18 (28) 6 GS Golden State Warriors 1-2
Mem 103, GS 118 W
GS 92, LAC 118 L
Det 101, GS 84 L
Bam is the star. This is the building block. Everyone else must go... no, seriously. Bam is playing great. Besides Clarkson, it seems everyone else is allergic to playing decent basketball. It may be a long season, but at least Bam is the bright spot.
19 (9) 5 Cle Cleveland Cavaliers 1-3
Cle 81, Mem 100 L
Cle 114, Utah 116 L
Cle 88, Ind 116 L
Cle 93, Mia 71 W
This is Sexton's team. He is the Cle star. Gordon is playing well and Bamba too, but the team needs more from Barnes and that albatross of a contract. They are stuck with him for the next 4 years, so they gotta try to get him involved. It will be nice to see JJJ, Dunn and Collins when they all suit up with the 1st unit.
  20 (20) 5 Mem Memphis Grizzlies 1-3
Cle 81, Mem 100 W
Mem 103, GS 118 L
Tor 108, Mem 85 L
Mem 68, Mia 84 L
This team will likely have a lot more bite when KAT returns, but for now they are struggling to find legitimate scoring options. Shake has been erratic and no one else seems to want to score. Too many role players but no one wants to be a star.
21 (8) 4 Pho Phoenix Suns 1-3
Det 103, Pho 83 L
Ind 116, Pho 91 L
Por 100, Pho 83 L
LAL 77, Pho 87 W
This is more of a by product of having 3 all star starters out. Most of the 2nd unit played against starters and the 3rd team played against everyone's backups. More losing is expected in week 2, as the best Suns players are still going to be on IR at least 1 more week.
22 (12) 4 Por Portland Trail Blazers 1-2
Por 76, Cha 92 L
Por 88, Atl 126 L
Por 100, Pho 83 W
This team had high expectations, from their GM. Most of the rest of the league seems to feel this is more of the expectation, as they were really overachievers last year. RJ and Lauri are way underperforming, as is Coby. Fortunately, Wiggins is playing well, but when your only win is against a hapless Suns team, you may have to look in the mirror and realize some hard truths.
23 (26) 3 Min Minnesota Timberwolves 1-3
Min 91, OKC 126 L
Hou 102, Min 111 W
Det 94, Min 73 L
Min 97, NO 107 L
Devonte Graham is playing well...but the KLove and Bradley injuries are leaving the Wolves without real scoring threats. Minny owns their own pick, so maybe it isn't a bad thing to be losing right now.
24 (17) 1 Bos Boston Celtics 1-3
Bos 112, Orl 105 W
Bos 91, Ind 114 L
Bos 89, Hou 113 L
Tor 120, Bos 85 L
PG13 was all by his lonesome, as Westy and Jonas were nursing injuries. When Russ is back, they should be a dynamic duo, but the rest of the team really needs to pick up the slack if the Celts plan on making the playoffs.
25 (23) 1 NO New Orleans Pelicans 1-3
NO 64, OKC 106 L
NO 97, Phi 115 L
Cha 99, NO 67 L
Min 97, NO 107 W
Vuc and Wall are proving to be an awesome combo, but the rest of the team is not performing at all. The Pelicans put a lot of chips in the middle going for a playoff run, but the early results are terribly disappointing.
26 (6) 1 SA San Antonio Spurs 1-3
Mil 119, SA 74 L
SA 87, Was 104 L
SA 88, Cha 108 L
SA 97, Mia 90 W
Perhaps the biggest surprise is that the Spurs are no longer an elite team right now? AD seems lackluster compared to his MVP season, and the entire team seems to be suffering from a Finals "high". They better get it in gear, or they could be one of those rare teams to make the finals and then miss the playoffs the following year.
27 (29) -7 Orl Orlando Magic 0-4
Bos 112, Orl 105 L
Atl 93, Orl 80 L
OKC 101, Orl 84 L
Mil 124, Orl 76 L
In tank we trust? or is that Caleb? Lauri was moved, but Blake stayed. Orlando wants to move on from some of his guys, but did a great job adding Isaiah Hartenstein, who could be an early nom for most improved.
28 (21) -8 Chi Chicago Bulls 0-4
LAL 91, Chi 79 L
Ind 109, Chi 98 L
Chi 73, Bkn 120 L
Chi 87, Tor 104 L
Chicago has talent, but it seems like GM Shams is more interested in a full overhaul of the roster. DLo, Al, Hield and PJ are all on the trade block consistently, so it's no surprise that the chemistry isn't quite there in Chi-town.
29 (11) -8 Den Denver Nuggets 0-3
Den 94, LAC 116 L
Den 119, Tor 122 L
Was 135, Den 71 L
Probably the least expected team in the bottom of the rankings, Denver has much more talent than their record suggests. Perhaps the trading away of Enes Kanter left a gap that was too large for Rootsey to fill?
30 (24) -15 Sac Sacramento Kings 0-3
Mil 145, Sac 93 L
LAC 130, Sac 79 L
Sac 54, Dal 111 L
Fully expected, the Kings are in rebuild mode. They are not expected to do much other than be a bottom tier team, but this was going to be a full rebuild and JWalk knew what he was getting into, so let the chips fall.
