LA Lakers - Power Ranking

Week Rank Rating Team Record Comment
20 26 -4 LAL 1-8 Losing Greeny was like a mercy kill. The guy had been in the league for nearly two decades and had three rings to his name. He also didn't give a fuck any longer. Look at the Lakers now. They are so bad that a new guy came in and quit overnight because they are so bad. Help wanted! Who can fix this hot mess?
19 27 -12 LAL 1-9 Christian Wood and Darius Garland look like long term pieces, maybe even future all stars. But the Lakers are already looking for toward the draft. They need as much help as possible.
18 26 -3 LAL 2-9 Speaking of falling down the rankings ….. the Lakers are enduring a BRUTAL second half of the season, with only 3 wins in their last 19 games, something has to give and this team is going to need a major shake up this offseason.
15 21 18 LAL 4-8 Lakers fighting with New Orleans for the right to get into the play-in in the West. They haven't been great lately in that fight though with 6 losses in their last 8 games.
14 19 30 LAL 5-7 The Lakers were not very active in trades this year, but the team is waiting for Garland, Wiseman, and Wood to continue developing still. Nesmith and Vassell are the same with this year only being their 1st. The team does not have their 1st next year, which they may not have to worry too much about if everything goes well.
13 23 12 LAL 3-8 The Lakers looked like they could make the playoffs until the injury issue for the bigs happened. Wiseman and Wood should be great long term, but this season was tough. The team looks good with a future of Wood, Garland, Wiseman, Rozier, and a few of the young guys who have not yet developed.
12 26 10 LAL 3-8 The Lakers have had some bad luck with injuries to Wiseman and Wood. The team has a bright future, with the current team they have, but do not own their 2022 1st round pick. Garland will look to keep growing and if the team can get healthy they should definitely have a shot at the playoffs.
11 27 -3 LAL 2-9 Too much only deal: Christian Wood already a good value for Grant but that pick was a bit too much. Can Lakers return to their glory with Wiseman in 2022 to make the trade of this pick to hurt less?
10 21 28 LAL 5-7 Christian Wood and James Wiseman are the best players on the Lakers, and yet they combine for just 23 points per game. For the Lakers to have a chance, they’ll need their two big men to be more involved in the offense
9 13 42 LAL 6-5 After a promising stretch from Week 5 to Week 8, the Lakers have now lost seven of nine games.
8 12 46 LAL 6-4 The Lakers are starting to show signs of life again, gripping onto the last play-in spot in the west. (Not a high bar to reach, but a ticket to the postseason regardless.) James Wiseman is the story of the team, notching terrific numbers for a rookie and currently the runaway candidate for Rookie of the Year.
7 19 23 LAL 4-5 The Lakers are another team that is just too young right now, but their future is bright. Wiseman has been an absolute monster, and with Christian Wood coming back from a lengthy absence, it's possible we see some movement from the Lakers over the next few weeks.
6 27 -4 LAL 2-7 Missing Christian Wood is hard, and the Lakers have had problems with their front court all year, with injuries to Wiseman, Zeller, and Wood happening frequently. The team went 3-1 the week where they had both Wiseman and Wood. This is definitely a weird year with LAL, because they could possibly make the playoffs, but they're a year or two away still having as much youth as they do.
5 30 -17 LAL 1-9 The Lakers have been without new-comer star Christian Wood for much of the campaign and it has hurt them. The team does have several young and interesting pieces and building blocks in the form of Vassell, Wiseman, Garland, and Nesmith, but just don't seem to have what it takes to compete this season. Terry Nozier has been dissapointing in the NLL thus far, as has Jeremy Lamb. The lone brightspot on the year might be James Wiseman who has proven he is another in the great lineage of big man 2k beasts, and should have a home in the Lakers front court for many years to come.
4 23 7 LAL 3-8 The Lakers are missing Christian Wood and James Wiseman right now. LAL is missing lots of big man depth with only Zeller, Parker, and Wagner being the true 4/5s. The Lakers have not shot well from the field either only shooting 37% for the whole year. Even with all of this they sit at the 10 seed, and are only 3 games out from the playoffs. LAL needs someone else to step up along with Rozier, with Wood and Wiseman out.
3 22 20 LAL 4-8 Greeny is an old hat at this, but this is still not a place we have seen him in very often. That said, maybe we won't need to for too much longer as the grass is growing in this field. Wiseman for mine was always the EASY #1 choice in this draft, particularly when you look at what he can/could/will do in 2k even let alone the big leagues, and he's come out firing for the Lakers (when playing). They unfortunately had to part with Jerami Grant before his big break out, but they at least got something for him and other S&T acquisition the year before, Terry Rozier, is busting out all over the place. Not to mention Garland! There's still a lot of work left in LA as evidenced by where they are on this PR, but they are definitely looking like a future team now.
2 14 31 LAL 4-4 The Lakers bounced back from a rough week 1 (1 win and 3 losses) with an impressive week 2 (3 wins and 1 loss). Unfortunately, they lose rookie sensation James Wiseman for week 3. He's been their second leading scorer with 13 ppg, and is averaging close to 10 rebounds and 3 blocks per game. With games against the Spurs, Pacers, Celtics and Bucks, they will have their work cut out for them.
1 16 7 LAL 1-3 The Lake-show was desperately needing Wood in week 1. Rozier and Wiseman looked great for the rebuilding Lakers, but GM Greeny decided to put some bulletin board fodder in the press for the Suns rematch. This is more of the expected outcome of LA on a weekly basis until the young guys improve.
