Western Conference Playoff Scenarios

Houston have finished their season on a tear, making an unlikely push towards a playoff spot.

Their fate now rests in the hands of the Warriors and Jazz.

Here are the possible scenarios.

Utah (@ CLE)

If Jazz win, Utah books itself a playoff spot

If Jazz lose, Utah finishes tied with Houston at 38-44. (Utah hold tie breaker 2-1)

Golden State (@ORL, @MEM)

If GSW Win both and finish 39-43, GSW book a playoff spot and above Utah scenarios play out

If GSW split games finish 38-44, finish tied with Houston (Houston hold tie breaker 2-1)

If GSW lose both, Utah and Houston in playoffs

3 way tie

If we have a 3 way tie all teams at 38-44 then, as none are division winners, the following rule is applied:

2. Better winning percentage in all games among the tied teams.

GSW 4 - 0 Utah
Hou 1 - 2 Utah
Hou 2 - 1 GSW

GSW 5-2
HOU 3-3
UTAH 2-5

So we will have GSW and Houston in the playoffs.
