The votes are in and final, and here we announce the Players of the Month
and Rookies of the Month for February!
East –
DeMarcus Cousins
Who else? Well I spose you could make a case for at least one other guy
putting up massive numbers in the East, but all the talk right now is
surrounding DeMarcus Cousins as he takes back to back POTM awards! He’s moved
cities, but stayed in the East, and it’s hard to believe but he’s been even
better at the Magic, all be it for one week. In Feb the big man put up 32.7
points, 10 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks on 51% shooting,
53% from deep and a net +7.4. He dominated for the Nets projecting them up the
standings and into serious playoff talk. Now however he is in Orlando, but it
doesn’t seem like it’ll slow him down on the stat sheet at least.

West –
Anthony Davis
The voting in the West was spread far and wide, but the big man Anthony
Davis still claimed 50% of the 1st place votes and took home back to
back POTM awards! Davis was a little quieter this month compared to last, but
still dropped 26.9 points, 13.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1 steal and 1.1 blocks
on 55% shooting, 36% from deep and only 1.4 turnovers. He continues to carry
the league leading Spurs and with a few injuries now in the front court around
him, you sense they need to jump on his back and let him carry them as far as
he can. Congratulations Anthony Davis on 2x POTM!
West
Rookie – Marquese Chriss
He’s been a Rookie of the Week, and now he’s a Rookie of the Month!
Marquese Chriss beat out Jaylen Brown by 4 points despite having 1 less 1st
place vote to claim the award this month. He put up averages of 13.9 points,
11.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks per game which if you
close your eyes, count to 10 and spin round 3 times might make you think you’re
looking at a mini Anthony Davis! Basically, the kid is raw but he has the
ability to stuff a stat sheet when given time and time is all he has in Memphis
this year as they coast out the season into another nice lottery pick.

Rookie – Thon Maker
Thin, Brandon, Thon,
Brandon, Thon…is the way I imagine the flip flop went of the voting for this
award, and eventually, it was Thon claiming 1 more 1st place vote,
and taking the award by 5 points over his teammate Brandon Ingram! Thon started
50% of his games in Feb which showed confidence in the kid by his GM as they
are still in the playoff hunt, yet playing the raw rookie pretty good minutes!
He averaged 15.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 1 steal and 0.5 blocks on
57% shooting and that was only in 24.8 minutes per game. He’s showing promise
already and as one of the youngest guys in the draft class, he’s got a bright
future ahead of him in Charlotte. Congratulations Thon Maker on Rookie of the
Month for February!
