The votes are in and final, and here we announce the Players of the Week
and Rookies of the Week for Week 18!
East
POTW – Tobias Harris
The Pacers came alive last week and Tobias Harris was the reason, so he
claimed the weekly award easily ahead of his teammate, Steven Adams. Harris
poured in an unlikely 30.8 points with 6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1 block on
59% shooting from the field! He’s been solid since coming over to Indiana and
maybe this is a sign of things to come when the Pacers come back next season to
push for a playoff birth? Congratulations Tobias Harris on Player of the Week
for week 18!
West POTW
– Carmelo Anthony
Melo dropped 40 again this week and followed that up with a 37 point game
and the voters lapped it up. He won this week almost unanimously over Derrick
Rose behind averages of 31.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1 steal and 0.8
blocks on 48% shooting, 50% from deep and only 1.3 turnovers a game. He’s made
the Kings move seamlessly with this being his 2nd award since
joining the Kings, and their playoff hopes might lie in whether his knee holds
up down the stretch. Congratulations Carmelo Anthony on 2x POTW!
West
ROTW – Fred VanFleet
Bang! That’s the sound of VanFleet hitting the ground running! He got the
starting nod in Week 18 for the rebuilding/tanking Mavs and he unleashed to
easily claim the weeks award over Dario Saric. Averages of 19.5 points, 4.5
rebounds, 6.3 assists and 0.5 steals are not to be sneezed at despite the 28%
shooting and he had a career high 24 in the week too. He’s a late producer for
the rookie war overall, but at least he has a weekly award now! Congratulations
Fred VanFleet on ROTW for Week 18!
East
ROTW – Willy Hernangomez
The
Raptors have a big Willy and they know how to use it…ahhh him. He had 1 more 1st
place vote than Brandon Ingram and that was the decider to who won the weekly
award this week as he pipped Ingram by 2 points. He put in 12.8 points, 8.8
rebounds, 1 assist, 1.2 steals and 1.4 blocks on 49% shooting...and he did it
all in 19.8 minutes a game! He’s a rookie on the rise down the stretch and
looks to have a bright future in the league if this type of production is any
indication. Congratulations Willy Hernangomez on ROTW for Week 18!
