The rookie battle was tight all year in what was considered to be a 2 horse race from very early on. It developed quickly into a 3 horse race as can be seen by the votes, and with the most (10) 1st place votes, Joel Embiid was clearly the people’s choice before going down with injury and playing only half the season. Jaylen Brown was the next most popular choice with 9 1st place votes, but with a clear league wide agreement of his performance which must have placed him in nearly all voters top 3, the man with the 3rd most 1st place votes has taken the award by only 2 points over Jaylen Brown!

Ingram averaged 19 points, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, a steal and nearly a block a game as a starter for the Hornets for 70 games in the year. His Swiss army knife skillset endeared him to the leagues fans and gave him a consistent role on the team that was hovering around a playoff birth for much of the year. He’s only 19 and in a developing young group, he shone bright for all to see. Onwards and upwards for this kid!

Congratulations to Brandon Ingram, the 2016/17 season Rookie of the Year!
