Season Highlight
The start of the season itself was the highlight. Despite the last few
seasons of frustration, Dazman’s optimism is contagious to the Bulls
faithful. Coming off of a 30-52 season the Bulls now have enough youth
to start flipping a few guys for some established veteran talent to
balance out the roster and start generating some wins. Jessica Alba and
Miley Cyrus where going to be game day regulars was planning to show
off his new repertoire of trampoline dunks.
Season Lowlight
Somebody forgot to tell the players they were supposed to be
winning games. The Bulls fielded a 6’5†speedy athletic PG in MCW,
Mr.Clutch Dirk “Diggler“ Nowitski, Rudy Gay. The team also had some
shooters and some other key veteran glue guys. Top Draft pick Anthony
Bennet failed to produce and it just seemed to be an everyman for
himself scario of guys taking bad shots and being turnstiles on
defense.
Best Trade
The Chicago Bulls send Carlos Delfino and Rudy Gay to the
Miami Heat. The Chicago Bulls send Michael Carter-Williams to the
Toronto Raptors. The Miami Heat send Tayshaun Prince and Stephen Curry
to the Chicago Bulls.
The Miami Heat send a 2nd-Rounder (Bkn) to the Chicago Bulls.
The Toronto Raptors send a 1st-Rounder (Min) to the Miami Heat.
This Trade happened too late to really help the team.
Delfino never suited up to live up to the promise of the space created
sharp shooter and Rudy Gay’s shot jacking did nothing to really help
the Bulls create efficient offense. Curry is a Top 5 PG in the league
and is the kind of teammate that can attract future teammates in Free
Agency. It also doesn’t hurt that the GM has a life size poster of him
in his office.
Worst Trade
The Chicago Bulls send Carlos Delfino and Rudy Gay to the
Miami Heat. The Chicago Bulls send Michael Carter-Williams to the
Toronto Raptors. The Miami Heat send Tayshaun Prince and Stephen Curry
to the Chicago Bulls.
The Miami Heat send a 2nd-Rounder (Bkn) to the Chicago Bulls.
The Toronto Raptors send a 1st-Rounder (Min) to the Miami Heat.
Anytime you trade for your “FAVORITE†player you run the risk
of over exposing yourself and giving up too much. Giving up a player
with MCW’s potential and a true scoring wing like Rudy G can be
something of a risk they may or may not pain out.
Other notable trades:
The Bulls made a number of deals to try and stop the bleeding but nothing really seemed to do the trick:
The Chicago Bulls send John Salmons, Andrea Bargnani, Alec
Burks and Jimmy Butler to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Oklahoma City
Thunder send Dirk Nowitzki and Willie Green to the Chicago Bulls.
Cashing in some key assets to dump a rock and get a
superstar back is something that sometimes you just have to do. But
Dirk never really found his groove.
The Chicago Bulls send Jameer Nelson, Ian Mahinmi,
Harrison Barnes and Anthony Bennett to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The
Minnesota Timberwolves send Rudy Gay, Jimmer Fredette and Allen Crabbe
to the Chicago Bulls.
This was an effort to bring in wing scoring and
some dead eye shooting. Was great on paper but somehow still didn’t
work out.
The Chicago Bulls send Roy Hibbert and Allen Crabbe to
the Golden State Warriors. The Golden State Warriors send JJ Redick and
J.J. Hickson to the Chicago Bulls.
The Roy Hibbert experiment is finally over and the
Bulls are going with a hustle Big and a pure shooter at the 2guard
position.
Best Free Agent Signing
Nate “The Great†Robinson – Daz wasn’t screwing around. He
really wanted to bring in some key vets to help get the team over the
top. Nate’s scoring prowess for a player under 6 feet is legendary in
the NLL primarily because its glimpsed but never quite fully realized.
Worse Free Agent Signing
Nate “The Great†Robinson – The low risk high reward potential
of Nate’s arrival shined for 17 games before his insane inefficiency
pushed him out the door to Pho for Aaron Gray, Elliott Williams and a
handful of ju ju beans.
Star
Rudy Gay – Even with only playing slightly more than half of
the Bulls games the perennial chucker kept fans engaged by continuing to
fill up the stat sheet with 29 Pts per and 6.5 rebounds will playing
as an oversized by capable shooting guard.
Goat
The Team as a whole. On paper there was more than enough talent
to make them better than their final record indicated. Sometimes the
pieces just don’t fit and something has to give.
Surprise
Michael Carter-Williams – Although he didn’t shoot very well
percentagewise. But 13 pts 5.5 rbds, 9 asts a steal and a block a game
while committing only 2 to’s is a game is impressive. The kid has a
very bright future albeit with the Raptors now but still bright none
the less.
Draft Report Card
The Bulls have forsaken the draft this year in favor of veteran talent.
Looking to the future
In Curry we Trust – Daz and Coach Thib are going to pretty much
tape the keys to the car into Stephen Curry’s hands and let him do his
thing. He is the kind of player that gives you a chance to win games
just by being on the court. If the team can put muster enough defensive
energy to compliment the offensive Firepower they have between Dirk,
Reddick and Curry. They will be a tough matchup for anyone on a nightly
basis even if they don’t quite have the depth yet to compete at an
elite level. The ground work for that is definitely in place.
Free Agents
Al-Farouq Aminu
Christapher Johnson
Ryan Hollins
Elliot Willams
Gustavo Ayon
Dirk Nowitzski
Dirk of course is the big name here that the Bulls are
counting on to return. A miracle return by Aminu would also go a long
way in improving the team’s defensive intensity and athleticism. The
remaining players have minimal value. But one more player that wants to
stay is one less player that you have to gamble on in Free Agency and
+1 in your trade assets pocket.
Even with best case scenario that Bulls retain Dirk and
Aminu + possibly one more of the others. They will have some camp space
to either take on some salary in a trade to improve their depth or snag
one or more of the overpaid Free Agents that inevitably get passed
over by the other teams. As it stands now the team is a player or 2 a
way from being serious playoff contenders.
