The votes are in and final, and here we announce the Players of the Month
and Rookies of the Month for January!
East
POTM – DeMarcus Cousins
The Big man has been stamping all over the league through January so it’s
no surprise that he claimed 60% of the 1st place votes to edge out
Kevin Durant for Player of the Month. He’s been going from strength to
strength, even moving down to Power Forward and put up averages of 30.9 points,
11.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.5 blocks while shooting 53% from
the field, 33% from deep and 77% from the line. The Nets have had a good month
behind their star and continue to push past top teams in a bid to push into the
upper echelon of the East. Congratulations DeMarcus Cousins on Player of the
Month for January!
West POTM
– Anthony Davis
The Brow had a down month…compared to himself! But he claimed the monthly
award again which shows he really is in a league of his own out West. The rise
of Joel Embiid hasn’t overly affected the big man and he poured in 27.3 points,
11 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.7 blocks on 59% shooting, 47% from
deep and 87% from the line…yes…oh yes. He claimed 66% of the 1st
place votes to beat out Harrison Barnes and the Spurs are out top of the league
by over 3 games due to this man and his explosion. Congratulations Anthony
Davis on 2x Player of the Month, December and January!
West
ROTM – Joel Embiid
Is there any wonder why the Spurs are the team to beat right now? Anthony
Davis…and now the pairing with quite possible Rookie of the Year, Joel Embiid
as he claims his 2nd monthly award of the year like his teammate
did. The kid filled in admirably for some games while Davis was out and he
claimed a couple of weekly awards this month also on his way to monthly
averages of 18.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.1 assist, 1.2 steals and 1.5 blocks
on 58% shooting including 56% from deep. He’s distinguished himself from the
pack in the West now it would seem easily accounting for his nearest rival,
Jaylen Brown, in the voting. Congratulations Joel Embiid on 2x Rookie of the
Month, December and January!
East
ROTM – Brandon Ingram
He has
been the story of the Eastern rookies this year Mr Ingram, and he’s claimed his
2nd monthly award ahead of Kris Dunn, but it wasn’t as clear cut
this time. He had 45% of the 1st place votes and his month was far
less impressive overall compared to last month. Still, he was clearly the Easts
main rookie with averages of 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.7 steals
and 0.6 blocks on 39% shooting including 37% from deep. He’s still playing some
swiss army like basketball, but he’s definitely coming down a little from the
dizzying heights he set himself to begin with. Congratulations Brandon Ingram
on 2x Rookie of the Month, December and January!
