Offseason, Here We Come
The playoffs ended sadly for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but
it was still a great run. After sweeping
the Denver Nuggets, the T-Wolves went into the Spurs series thinking any wins
were a bonus win on the season. Then the
Wolves blew out the Spurs in game 1 with their most spectacular offensive explosion
of the season. The front office had hope
at this point in the series that maybe we could do this. Then we went up 2-1 in the first week and the
disaster happens. You guessed it,
right?...Zaza Pachulia has a heel injury that keeps him out of 2 games in the
NBA, but sealed the NLL Timberwolves fate.
In game 4 of the series, and the first game without Zaza, we
got lucky with a 2-point win. Anthony
Davis got in early foul trouble and that basically sent the Spurs reeling as
they didn’t know how to cope without their superstars. After this though, the Spurs moved Davis back
to PF and the Wolves just didn’t have the bodies to compete. With only 1 actual healthy big man on the
roster in Tyson Chandler, the team just didn’t have the bodies to stop
Davis.
It was so hard to watch as the team collapsed from a 3-1
lead, and after game 6, I knew it was over, as I wrote about earlier. Game 7 went about how we thought, the team
was close, but just couldn’t get over the hump.
This was devastating as the team thought it had a great shot at beating
the Kings. The Wolves were 3-1 vs. the
Kings in the regular season, and many of those games were won with injured
guys. There was a legit shot at going to
the finals this season. We knew that we
didn’t stand a great shot against an Eastern Conference Champion, but just
getting to the finals would have been an accomplishment.
Sadly, none of that happened, and we are facing the future in
the offseason now. The team has been
putting feelers out trying to see who is available in the offseason. Everyone seems to want picks, and the guys
that have all the picks don’t have room for them on their team. Most teams are still trying to figure out
where they are right now, or GMs have checked out for the playoffs. As of right now, the only player that isn’t
tradeable is Jabari Parker. Everyone
else is moveable for the right price.
