Gone Fishing

Gone: Fishing: Well it’s been a couple of weeks now since the Lakers got swept out of the playoffs by the Thunder.  Since then we have seen some classic Conference Finals matchups including the Thunder losing a close series to the Kings.  Interestingly, it is both these teams that the Lakers have feasted upon over the past few seasons on their way to the NLL Title.  Now it’s their turn to try and win it all.  The Thunder have failed, can the Kings pull it off?  It’s a long road, but we sure hope so especially since the Kings managed to lure former Laker stud Gerald Green into their ranks.  Our advice to gm klemmelo, play Gerald more, the kid is a winner!  Although the Spurs also have a former Laker in Courtney Lee.  Either way go West, make sure to keep the trophy on this side of the nation.

Wade: Not much news has occurred in Lakerland in the past days but it has become apparent that future hall of famer, Dwyane Wade does appear to be leaning towards picking up his player option for next season.  This would mean that the evergreen Wade, the NLL’s 8th all-time leading scorer who averaged 20.4 points in 66 games would return to the fold for his 15th season.  At this stage there has been no thought into whether he fits into the Lakers plans or whether the team will pursue trade options instead.

Brogdon:  Another point of interest in the Lakers camp is the play of rookie Malcolm Brogdon.  Brogdon was selected at pick 49 in last years draft.  At the time Lakers brass was shocked that teams had let the former consensus first team All-American, ACC Player of the Year 2016 and NABC Defensive Player of the Year  2016 slide that far.  The knock on him being, he was an ‘old’ guy at age 23.  Whilst Brogdon likely wont win Rookie of the Year due to lack of playing time behind George Hill it would be fair to say that he was the steal of this draft.  With the 2017 draft looming, Lakers management is hoping that pull off a similar coup having selected the like of Mason Plumlee late in the first round as well as selecting Isaiah Thomas a few seasons ago with pick 56.  It would seem that their scouting is generally quite on point when it comes to finding diamonds in the rough.

In other news: The team has declined its option on big man Marreese Speights so it is likely he will leave in free agency.  NLL Legend Manu Ginobili has yet to announce his intentions for next season.  Either way the team will support his decision.  Athletic swingman Jonathon Simmons appears to be tearing it up in scrimmages so look to him to take a big leap forward next season.
