Harden's Hamstring
08-10-2021
PHILADELPHIA-
Just when things looked like they were going well for the Sixers, star guard
James Harden’s hamstring went out again.
After helping
to sweep the Pistons in a commanding round one performance and scoring 25
points in a decisive game one win against the Charlotte Hornets, Harden told trainers
that he felt a “twinge” in his hamstring. Turns out, the Sixers could be without
their star for a long time.
“It’s a big
blow,” GM VT said. “Harden is the heart and soul of our team. We have lots of
other stars to pick up the slack, but it will hurt not having James out there.”
Harden has
been averaging 34.4 points per game on 57% shooting so far in the playoffs and
has made a case to be this season’s Most Valuable Player.
Team officials
have been quiet about how long Harden will miss. While there is hope that
Harden will be out only a few games, there is a chance it could be much longer
than that.
“We will be
assessing James day to day,” GM VT said. “If he feels better, he will play. But
we’re not going to rush him out onto the court. We cannot risk a more serious
injury.”
The team is officially
are calling the injury “hamstring tightness,” though there is fear that there it
could be something much worse. Based on the way he carried himself off the
court following Game One, folks on Twitter worry that it could be a bad hamstring
strain, something that would keep Harden out indefinitely.
“I’m
frustrated and I feel like crap,” Harden told the press leaving the game. “I
hope it’s not anything serious. I would hate to jeopardize the team and the
season.”
The Sixers
will face off without Harden tomorrow against the Hornets in Philadelphia.
Though the team did not comment on lineup changes, it would make sense that
they slot in Derrick Rose to start in Harden’s place.
