Game 1 down
Rolling Thunder: 23/07/2021
The Thunder opened their playoff campaign the other day hosting Denver in
Oklahoma for Game 1 of what they hope will be a long playoff run. The team is
healthy for now, and they are in great form heading into the playoffs, rested
from the play in week off.
The game was fairly free flowing for the most part, with the Thunder topping
30 points in every quarter, while Denver didn’t have as much trouble scoring as
some would imagine against the leagues top defence, not being blown away, but playing
a level of catch up throughout the game as they went down 6, then to 13, still
13 at ¾ time and finally 20.
The Nuggets shot a respectable 48% from the field and 46% from deep with
6 players hitting double figures, led by Miles Bridges off the bench with 20,
but some extra fouls particularly on Mason Plumlee early, and a 29 to 44
rebound count was where they were beaten.
The Thunder had only 3 players in double figures, but were led by Kawhi
Leonard’s 44 points, and Lebron’s 2nd leading scoring total of 26
points with 11 assists. Hassan Whiteside controlled the inside with 16
rebounds, on par with the top 3 Denver rebounders combined and his 6 blocked
shots were instrumental.
The pundits have all chosen OKC as the series winner, but that doesn’t mean
that they will take it for granted. Anything can happen, and while they look to
be a formidable opponent, their lack of scoring outside of their two superstars
has always been a prominent feature that could be exploited.
Game 2 is set for Oklahoma on Friday and the Thunder will look to go up
2-0 despite anticipated moves from the Nuggets to counter what they witnessed in
Game 1.
Go Thunder!
