Come On Coach!

By almost any measure, other than standings or other things that count - the Nets should be one of the best teams in the league. Both by 2k ratings and NBA performance, they feature 4 top 50 players as well as a well-rounded cast of backups. Despite some moderate injury issues, there is literally no reason that they shouldn't be a top team in the East - let alone the league. But for some reason it's just not happening.

The targets from the fans have been lack of three point shooting (Middleton and Gallinari were supposed to fill this role), lack of a dominant power forward to go with the rest of their starters (Kevin Love or Jabari Paker could/should have filled this role, potentially Gallinari more recently), or lack of bench scoring punch (Gallinari and other injuries).

But ultimately, it seems like coach Kenny Atkinson is to blame. Kenny has become well known for his development of non-premier prospects into solid players - like Caris LeVert and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. However, he hasn't really done anything to help this talented team halfway into the season. At this point, the coaching staff seems sadly perplexed, throwing their hands in the air and asking the front office for help. Despite offensive flow issues, the main issue seems to be on the defensive side of the ball. Even with DeAndre anchoring the defense, Rondae playing big minutes, as well as solid guys like Bledsoe and Middleton leading the team - they've managed to post one of the worse defensive ratings in the league. They're looking at all options, from trading for another big time solution to making small coaching tweaks to right  the ship - but are currently expecting to end up in the post season.

The front office absolutely loves the players they've currently assembled, which is turning into a big point of contention in a battle between the front office and the coaching staff. It's hard to say if the coaches wishes will impact the long-term direction of the franchise, but it's hard to ignore the possibility.
