Pre Free Agency

Free Agency Day 2 is less than 24 hours away and the Nuggets brass is on the eagerly awaiting the outcome of a decision by one key player, which will make or break there offseason. Dwyane Wade was traded to the Nuggets from the Lakers during the offseason and has since changed from having a guaranteed contract to a free agent, thanks to his NBA counterpart accepting a buyout.

The day ahead has many repercussions for the Nuggets dependant on his decision:

* If he resigns with the Nuggets, they will have an 82 rated shooting guard with great defensive stats and awesome ball handling skills at the measly price of $2.3M for the year.

* If he doesn't resign with the Nuggets, they have just wasted some GMs, Timothe Luwawu-Caborrot, Marcin Gortat, and Damyean Dotson, for nothing.

* If he resigns before Jamychal Green, there will be cap space to sign an above tax payer MLE free agent as well as a tax payer MLE free agent and minimum guys. 

* If he signs after Green, then the team won't have the ability to sign the above tax payer MLE guy.

Due to the timing of the rules and Wades buy out, the Nuggets have been left in a position of being above the tax and below the salary cap at the same time, getting the worst of the MLE's and cap space to spend. 

Fortunately, this seasons crop of below MLE guys and minimum players is a solid bunch, but there is a long list of suitors too, with many roster spots available on most teams.

The Nuggets will be on the lookout for a back up centre and a few back up point guards, off the back of the two-way contract that Wade Baldwin is due to sign with the team at the allotted time. So we may see Baynes, Black, Bogut, Dedmon, Udoh or Zeller suiting up for the Nuggets shortly in the back up Centre position. We may also see the return of Canaan or Larkin, or new faces like Brooks, Chalmers, Jack, Nelson or Nwaba join the franchise. The Nuggets would also like to try bring Ilyasova and Acy back to the team after they were cut early in the offseason, pre-Wade being bought out, when they were trying to get the larger MLE.

It will be a big night for the Nuggets and a successful night will set them up for successful season. Otherwise we may be looking at a repeat of previous seasons with the possibility of slipping out of the playoffs due to a strengthening Western Conference.
