Then & Now - Myles Turner
Review and Projections
MYLES TURNER
Last Season
Myles Turner had a solid, albeit, unspectacular sophmore season in the NLL. While the majority of his numbers increased across the board, the increases were marginal at best. Turner finished the season 22nd amongst centers according to NLL rankings. This was actually one place behind the Hornet's new rookie, Thon Maker, so it's fair to say his improvements did not meet expectations. Some of this can be explained by the fact that he shares the court with a front court partner who has a very similar skillset in Kristaps Porzingis. This could be causing some issues with plays as Zinger holds the dominant role and this forces Turner to take a backseat in the offence. Another thing that held back Turner's progress last season was his 3 point shooting. He actually was rated quite high according to all measurements but lacked complete confidence in letting the shot go with a "tendency" firmly locked at zero for the majority of the season. This led to him flat out refusing to shoot, even when wide open.
2016/17 Season - 30.5mpg - 11.9ppg - 9rpg - 1.2bpg
This Season
Turner once again figures to find himself in a starting role next to his fellow draft class companion, Porzingis. All reports over the offseason indicate that Myles has shown great maturity and dedication into improving his game. Hornet's coaching staff are predicting that they'll be able to get Turner's usage rate a bit higher this season with talk of also staggering minutes to ensure Zinger and Turner both get a chance to operate on the floor individually. The team also has other starters which currently play a passive role offensively in Brandon Ingram and Gary Harris. If this continues then we don't forsee any issues with getting Myles Turner ample opportunity to be effective on that end of the floor. Defensively, the Hornet's know that Turner is a tremendous positive and will rank among the leaders in blocked shots next season. He's a critical anchor for Charlotte and a reason why he has the potential to be a franchise type player.
2017/18 Season Projections - 30.8mpg - 15.8ppg - 12rpg - 2.1bpg
Where Myles Tuner currently ranks in Charlotte Hornets All-Time Stat Leaders -
Points - 22nd
Rebounds - 10th
