What's Next?

PHILADELPHIA- The season is over. So what’s next for the Sixers?

Rudy Gobert- Gobert established himself as on the premier defending centers in the league. The Sixers will offer him big money to stay. It is impossible to imagine him in another uniform next season.

Derrick Favors- Favors spent much of his time with the team hampered by a knee injury. He did suit up for the playoffs and put up some impressive numbers. It’s a contract year for Favors, so he knows he must perform. The team has put out for feelers for a trade, but it’s likely Favors will stay in town. He did say, however, that his knee feels 100%.

Kawhi Leonard- Leonard proved how integral he was to the Sixers squad when he missed the devastating series against the Cavs with a sprained ankle. Leonard will continue to improve and will look to have an even bigger season in the fall.

C.J. McCollum- McCollum has developed into an elite scorer. And he’s only 25! The Sixers benching him during the Cavs series isn’t a good sign and there is a chance that McCollum, who will command more than $20mil next season, won’t be in a Sixers uni in the fall. GM VT refuted those rumors and said McCollum is one of his favorties.

Damian Lillard- Along with Leonard, Lillard is the heart and soul of the Sixers. Since the team will likely not shake up its core too much next season, expect Lillard to carry the same role.

David Lee- Lee’s season ended with a scary knee injury. Luckily, the big man will avoid surgery. He holds a player option and says he likes playing in Philly. The team is hoping he is willing to come back for a bargain.

Richaun Holmes- A throw-in during the Jabari Parker trade, Holmes’ impressive play helped him carve out some minutes with the Sixers. GM VT feels he is a keeper, but his role will be unclear next season until David Lee makes a decision and the team selects its draft picks. It’s possible he could expect 20 or so minutes a game!

Kelly Oubre- The Sixers didn’t give Oubre much to do this season. He was impressive in flashes during the Cavs series, but he will likely spend his third season in the league trapped on the team’s depth chart.

Bojan Bogdanovic- The sharpshooter had the unenviable job of covering Lebron in the playoffs once Leonard came down. A clerical error made the team believe he had a player option, but Bogdanovic will be an RFA this offseason. Look for the team to sign and trade him, especially with Gobert and McCollum set to make big bucks.

J.J. Redick- Like Bogdanovic, Redick will be looking for big money. Rumors are he wants $18-20 million per season. The Sixers can’t afford that and will likely allow him to walk.

Jordan Clarkson- The Sixers are planning to shift Clarkson to the shooting guard position, capitalizing on his shooting rather than his playmaking abilities. It will leave the team in search of a point guard, but with Redick and Bogdanovic likely gone, Clarkson will see plenty of minutes.

Salah Mejri- The inexpensive big man plays good defense, but his name is linked to a potential trade that could occur when the season ends.

Ben McLemore- Four long years have passed since McLemore was picked first overall by the Sixers. GM VT said he “absolutely” wants the guard back on his roster. There was no market for B-mac at the trade deadline and if the team can keep him for cheap, they just might.

Domantas Sabonis- Sabonis wasn’t amazing in his first campaign with the Sixers, but the team isn’t giving up on its rookie. Instead, they will bring him along slowly with the hope that he will achieve the same level of greatness as his father.

Isaiah Taylor- Signed late in the season on a flyer, the team will likely cut him soon.
