Just a couple more days

The playoff race is rather tigth this year. Top 4 teams in the East were very close going into last week. Any of Cavs, Knicks, Sixers or Bucks could finish in the top 4. Sixers were the favorites holding the tiebreaks.

Cavs were the first to fall. One loss in week 19 and another in last week (Miami of all teams) got them cemented in 4th and a meeting with Boston, the worst opponent as KD comes back.

Knicks fell next . They won 16 straigth games, probably team record. They looked ujnstoppable. But they found their foe, the Orlando Magic, who sent them to 3rd spot on the back of former Buck and potential league MVP DeMarcus Cousins. Knicks are done on the base of tiebreakers, lost 3 times to  Sixers and got a worse conference record then Bucks.

So it’s down to Sixers and Bucks. Both teams have two games to play, one with a marquee opponent and one winnable. Bucks will play OKC Thunder, a team that has a record almost as good as the Bucks and is still trying to clinch the second seed in the West. Then there’s Lakers, the defending champions, that don’t look all that hot this year. But they’re always a threat.

Sixers will play the leader of the West, San Antonio Spurs, a team that is losing its ground since Embiid went down. Then there’s Miami, a team that just beat Cavs. So not bad at all? They were blown by Bucks in previous game though.

So, what are the scenarios? One thing is certain, if Bucks and Sixers finish with the same record then Sixers are in front. Teams only played three games this year, Bucks won the first one and lost next two. Bucks hold a tiebreaker over Spurs with two back to back wins. Sixers beat Spurs once and they’ll meet again tomorrow.

Another certain thing, Bucks will root for Spurs. If Bucks win both games and Spurs beat Sixers then Bucks get home court advantage throughout the playoffs.
