That last trade...

Going into the trade deadline, the Suns had already learned that they would lose Joakim Noah for at least the remainder of the regular season.  Withey would slot into the starting role, as he has so often when Noah would miss, but the Suns backup was in doubt.  Normally, Omer Asik would fill that role, but he has been out indefinitely with an undisclosed illness.  The Suns could not trust the minutes to their emergency big man, Rakeem Christmas, who was only picked up last week.  The Suns frantically worked the phones in an attempt to fill this need.  Eventually, they struck a deal with the Cavaliers for Thomas Robinson, an elite rebounder and athlete that has never been much aside from that.  The cost, unfortunately, was the Suns rookie PG, Malcolm Delaney.  Phoenix had taken a shine to the rookie, but when the Suns were able to procure Spencer Dinwiddie, Delaney was expendable.  Delaney’s contract was high enough that the Cavs would need to send more to Phoenix to complete the deal.  Brian Roberts was eventually agreed upon and the Suns waived Anthony Brown, who just could not seem to stay active.  Roberts will be the team’s 3rd string PG, in case of emergency.  Dinwiddie will be the backup to Kemba.  Robinson will be the backup PF, but will see minutes at C if Asik is not able to play.

In other news, it looks like the Suns felt they weren’t getting enough scoring from their bench, so Chandler has been moved to the bench and coupled with Tim Hardaway Jr to get more offensive firepower to the 2nd unit.  Ian Clark is starting in the SG slot and Nick Young will move to the SF position.  Clark is a solid offensive player, but lacks the creativity to get others open, so hopefully he will be proficient at getting around screens and letting Kemba set him up for open jumpers.
