Raptors New GM pondering reset

It seems that the Toronto Raptors new general manager may be far less sold on a direction for the organization than purported in his introductory press conference. According to conversations with multiple sources within the organization, the new top decision maker in basketball operations has been unwilling to align with holdovers from the previous regime that have advocated continuing to build around Bradley Beal, but has also been tentative around the idea of a full-blown teardown.
While it's still early in the new executive's tenure, franchises without direction tend to flounder and several figures within the organization have expressed early trepidation about this noncommitment. The new general manager hasn't been without ideas, reportedly discussing the possibility of trading nearly every prominent veteran on the team. However, he has not just shown a willingness to contemplate moving proven pieces, also discussing the third overall pick in the upcoming draft as a potential trade chip for a veteran or to trade down and help acquire a 2022 first-round pick, which the Raptors do not have from a previous move.
In conversations with others familiar with the new general manager's previous experience, they understood where concerns about indecision could come from, but suggested that the new GM in Toronto always prioritizes flexibility and always wants to be able to zig when the league zags. With that said, those familiar with the new GM were fairly confident that the Raptors roster will soon be far younger, "If there's one thing I know, every player on the roster will be available via trade and the Raptors are going to get younger," according to one source familiar with the recent hire. If the new head of basketball operations in Toronto does prioritize youth, it could suggest that older impending free agents like Lou Williams, Mike Muscala, and Alec Burks are unlikely to receive significant offers to re-sign.
More importantly, with only $67.8m in salary on the books for next season even with Beal, the Raptors will have more than enough cap space to be huge players in free agency. They will have decisions to make on several significant contributors hitting the open market (Williams, Dennis Schroder, and Bobby Portis). Still, they should have plenty of flexibility to change the look of this Raptors team.
