What We Are Missing To Contend

Another week has passed us by for those of us that are enthralled in the dramatic season that is the NLL 2017-2018 season. The Orlando Magic quietly sit still in the playoff race after the quarter mark, but for how long?

The "pretender" moniker was rightfully removed in the latest NLL Podcast, but some around the league are not viewing the Magic as they did when the team was among the league's elite to start the season. A couple of horrible weeks when the team was riddled with injuries supplanted the team's hopes of flying through this NLL season.

What is remarkable to most is that, although the team has struggled lately, the team has only been relatively quiet on the trade front. What is more remarkable is that the Orlando Magic's general manager, L J Maverick, pension for trading has recently subsided. Some will build up the fact that the team does not fully expect to go through many injury weeks and that the chemistry is what is making them play solid basketball all around. Others will attest that the team is hamstrung by not having many assets to go after a big name in the trade front. In the NLL, not having a first round draft pick to dangle around like cheese will solidify the fact that you will be out of the running in most conversations for trades.

This week brings that glimmer of hope as the team is fielding a relatively healthy squad. The most notable absence is starting shooting guard Danny Green with a small leg injury. In Green's stead, the Orlando Magic will start sixth man of the year candidate Jeremy Lamb. Lamb brings an explosiveness to the offense that has not been seen in years. The move will also bring more minutes to second year wing Malachi Richardson while the team still brings wing Sterling Brown along. Let's see how it pans out this week.
