Talkin’ ‘bout Waivers
Talkin’ ‘bout Waivers
People of Jazz Nation, sometimes circumstance makes people
do stupid stuff, we have had a lot of examples of this throughout history.
As it happens, on the other side of the multiverse, in the
NBA, the Brooklyn Nets made a crucial mistake when they waived our own Sean
Kilpatrick, this past week.
What happened was a trade that saw Jahlil Okafor, the
centerpiece of the trade, and Nik Stauskas, coming into the roster, which
provoked a roster squeeze and Kilpatrick was the odd man out.
The season started a little bumpy for Sean with D’Angelo
Russell, a high draft pick being brought in and taking a lot of the minutes
that were Sean’s last season, but still Kilpa kept on pushing and staying true
to himself and his work.
As his minute and usage diminished, so did his percentages,
being the 6th man caliber and microwave type of guy that he is, Sean
needs a little time to get going, not a lot, but some time and the Nets didn’t
give it to him. I would say they cut him too soon and this is a highly
motivated guy that wants to win badly. He came from the defunct D-League and
had to earn everything since coming from Cincinatti.
There is no doubt in my mind that Sean will get another
opportunity to contribute elsewhere, after all when he was given a real chance,
he put games like a 38-point output for the Nets, on a magical night that saw
the GM of the Jazz to promptly call GM Sheed and begin to work out a trade.
The more time Kilpatrick spent in the organization, the more
he developed into the crucial bench player the Jazz needed and his work ethic
is as great as anybody’s. Ask Kevin Durant, who constantly trains with him in
the off-days, they’ve created a bond and it has shown into the mindset of our
own Sean Kilpatrick.
As for the Jazz, we are willing to wait for him and will
stand by him during this time. We’re all waiting for you to come back, Sean!
