With all the hype being around the Dallas Mavericks rebuild, and their top pick Lonzo Ball, The franchise were able to go pretty much unnoticed when they sign their 2nd round draft pick from 2016. Abdel Nader was selected with the 60th pick in the 2016 draft, and The Mavericks sent him away to G-League affiliate the Texas Legends for a full year to develop.

While Nader had a good Summer league last year, and thought he would be able to get the last roster spot, this wasn’t the case. Nader, however, took it upon himself to really show the Mavericks organisation that they should take a good look at him for a roster spot sooner rather than later. Nader impressed not only the Texas Legends coaching staff and his team mates, GM Smokey was extremely impressed with how the young small forward conducted himself throughout the entire season.

“We knew Abdel had the drive and skill to play in the NLL at some stage.” Smokey said. “We were just thinking a few years down the line.” Abdel Nader was awarded the NLL G-League rookie of the year with averages of 21.3pts, 6.2rbs, and 3.9asts. he appeared in 40 games, and also shot nearly 45% from the field.

“We have been extremely impressed with how Abdel has conducted himself this season.” Head coach Bob MacKinnon said. “It’s fantastic to see him now get an opportunity with the NLL Dallas Mavericks, and we know he is capable of shinning in this league too.”

Nader is a 6’8” Small forward, but was heavily used at multiple positions during his time at the Legends. He is capable of guarding 1 through 3 with the vision of him being able to guard the 4 position after a summer in the gym. Although Contract specifics haven’t been released, it is believed that Nader will sign a $6mil/4 yr deal in due course.
