The Manimal
Another day another interesting trade for
the Memphis Grizzlies. GM Dunne has certainly been hard at work on the phones
this offseason.
Kenneth Faried is the latest acquisition.
He comes across from Detroit with 20 GM points in return for Detroit getting
their 2018 First back and Darrel Arthur. On the surface the trade appears to be
the good old win win deal. Detroit get some cap relief and a future assets as
well as nice bench piece. Memphis get the better player out of the trade, who
can add some front court depth. Kenneth is only 26 years old and on a friendly
contract. He will fit nicely into the future plans of the Grizz.
Furthermore, the 20 points will take the Grizzlies
into the 90’s combined with a large chunk of the salary cap, they will be able
to target up to 3 handy Free Agents. It has been a long process for the Grizzlies
fans but they can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.
They won 19 games in Dunne’s first year, 23
in his second and that number can realistically be seen to climb again. Maybe
even 30 wins next season? The skies the limit for this young and exciting team.
In other Grizzlies news, Michael Gbinije
has been renounced. The rookie was taken at pick 46 in last year’s draft, but
only featured in a few games this past season. He has also failed to impress at
Summer League. GM Dunne spoke on the decision “we wish Michael all the best in
his future goals and thank him for his time at Memphis. We just feel the organisation
needs to part ways so we can now open up another roster spot for the upcoming
FA period. Along with out incoming Rookies, we feel we have a nice balance of
youth and experience starting to form.
Stay tuned for more Memphis news as it hits.
