Press conference - Game 5

Press Conference - Game 5

As we often do here at the headquarters, we like to bring you, the fan, the most in-depth coverage possible of the Utah Jazz, and with that in mind, we’ve managed to ask a few questions, at the press conference, to the General Manager of the Jazz, Mr. Merencio after Game 5 on Saturday.

Karina Alexandre: Merencio, Karina Alexandre from the Jazz Insider. What happened there, there was some kind of controversy before the Game today? There was also a lot of buzz after the game. Take us through it.

GM Merencio: Oh, started off with a bang, but as you know I have never shied away from tough questions. Well, here’s what happened. Much like Terry Stotts’ mishap during the season not listing one of his players and handing the line-up sheet late to the officiating table, this was in line with that type of “clerical error”, except ours was a HUGE one and it has cost us Game 5 and the season. The listing of the active players, their positions and minutes was simply not handed to the NLL League Office for Game 5 because our coaching and management staffs had prepared for a Sunday game. When the paperwork was not delivered, the players had to go out there and just play for themselves with no direction, and that is a grave blunder, but it happened and it will be assessed in the off-season, believe you me!

KA: Wow that is something you don’t see every day.

GM: Yeah, there is something called over-prepping and this, to me, is what clearly happened. We were focused on the X’s and O’s of the situation, and forgot about the simplest of things. I take full responsibility, this is my staff and when it goes well it’s on me and when it goes badly it’s my fault too. So you gotta be responsible for your actions.

KA: Do you have any plans for the off-season?

GM: Way too early for that, but off the top of my head, handing in line-up sheets on time is #1, getting better is #2 and making sure we don’t get distracted by the outside noise being #3.

Jazz Spokesperson: That is all the time we have for Mr. Merencio today, we will now pass it on to Andrew Goudelock and any questions you might have for him…

(Crickets sounds…)
