PLAYER OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 2

PLAYERTEAMWHYWHY NOTSTATS

Andre Drummond

PER 21.49

MVP

-
Drummond earns his place in this list due to his teams success, 7 victories out of 8 starts, top 10 rebounder in the league, 22nd in scoring, 19th in steals, and 9th in Free throw attempts per game.

He's picked up 2 player of the games so far this season, with his week 2 award coming off the back of a 19 point, 19 rebound, 6 steals and 2 block outing against Detroit.

With his offensive strength supporting his team, they have a league leading points per game tally with 112.25 per game.
His stats don't pop as much as his competitors for the award, and he doesn't control the destiny of his team as much as others in the running. Lebron has taken a number of the Player of the Game awards and so has Serge Ibaka.

Stephen Curry

PER 40.07

MVP

-
Curry should win because the player who seems like a glitch in the NBA with his ability to shoot has finally had his 2k counterpart catch up. Can he be called a glitch when he is finally close to resembling his NBA self?

NLL version of Curry is lighting it up. 50% from deep, which is only 9th best in the league. He shoots more shots than anyone in the league, whether its from 3 point range or in total. He is the league leader in scoring and 8th in assists. He scored 37PPG in week 2 for crying out loud!

His team is also helping his team to a 5-3 record.
He shouldn't win because.... umm... let me get back to you. His turnovers are quite high, 11th in the league, but that is the curse of the point guards in the NLL this seaon.

James Harden

PER 34.96

MVP

-
Harden should win the award because he is a top 20 scorer and top 12 assist disher in the league. With 22ppg and 7.1apg he is leading his team to a 5-3 record and an undefeated week.

In week 2 he increased his output to 31PPG on 55% shooting and 42% from deep. He picked up two players of the game awards last week with his best game coming against Golden State, where he got to the line 14 times and netted 13 of them.

With his week 2 performance lifting his team to a perfect week, Harden is showing himself as a good candidate for MVP.
Its hard to knock Harden off a pedestal because his improvement in week 2 has lead to more wins for his team. Could his inconsistency over the rest of the season be his downfall, or was week 1 just a blip in an otherwise strong MVP candidacy.

DeAndre Jordan

PER 15.97

MVP

-
DeAndre should win the award, as he leads the league in a number of defensive and offensive individual statistic categories. He is 1st in offensive and total rebounds, 2nds in Blocks per game, 3rd in field goal percentage. He is also 13th overall in steals per game.

His individual stats were punctuated by a 25 rebound, 30 point, 4 steal, 4 block game against Washington.

In half the teams victories, he was the Man of the Match, so his value to a winning team is apparent.
For all his great defensive stats as an individual, his team allows the 2nd highest points per game and the team has only won 2 games out of the 8 played.

He also falls short due to the curse of the bigs, ranking 12th overall in fouls per game, fouling out twice already this season

Alex Len

PER -5.27

MVP

-
What more can be said about Alex Len that hasn't already been sung about him already. 13th in Points per game with 26.1, 2nd in the league in steals with 2.5 per game, 4th in the league in rebounds with 14.1 per game. While leading his team to more wins than losses this season. He along with KAT have 5 players of the game only behind JV and the Brow.

You'd hate the be the GM that traded him last year, after holding onto him for 3 years waiting for his trade value to increase. Trust me you would.

He also does well and stays out of foul trouble for the most part.

His game of the week came against Houston and the temporary player at Centre Hassan Whiteside who quickly got out of he way, letting Alex go for 37 points and 18 rebounds until he eventually fouled out as well.
He shouldn't win because you can't vote for him, as you cannot forgive yourself for not holding onto him and this grudge you hold will burn into your soul until he walks at the end of the year because the NBA Suns are a mess.

Rudy Gay

PER 23.05

MVP

-
Portland is currently 4-5 this season with Rudy Gay being the only explanation. Who saw that coming?

It has been said that Spud quit on the Twolves, moments after Gay dropped 46 on them early in week 2, getting to the line 19 times and not missing a free throw. Gay is a Spud killer, or caused him to commit Spudicide...

Against everyone else in the league he is casually scoring more points than all but 4 other players in the league and pilfering 2.2 steals per games for 7th in the league.
He shouldn't win because a 2-2 week never gets my vote and he shoots a miserable 28% from beyond the arc 4 times a game.

PER 16.50

MVP

-
Hassan deserves to win because he does what is expected of him for this team. He rebounds (2nd in league) he scores (14th in league), he defends (9th blocks, 25th steals), and he does it efficiently in only 27.8 minutes per game.See above RE: Wins

He also is the league leader in fouls per game with an average of 5.4 per outing. He has fouled out 5 out of the 8 games so far this season. In the loss the the Pels last week he only lasted 13 minutes, but still scored 14 points and pulled in 5 rebounds a block and a steal.

DeMarcus Cousins

PER 22.41

MVP

-
Boogie Cousins, trying to not be outdone by KAT, who he will be constantly compared to due of the trade a few years ago, was doing his best to keep Spud at the helm of his franchise, but 3 victories was never going to cut it for a team with so much talent up and down the roster.

Boogie is currently 7th in the MVP rankings due to his 11th in PPG, 14th in RPG, 12 Blocks PG, 10th Steals PG. Whoever steps into the Minny GM role will have every vulture in the league swooping in to take this prize, offering peanuts because he has an expiring contract or some such nonsense.

Plus check this out, Boogie does not rank in the top 25 for fouls... for a big fella he is doing well.

BRB, gotta sharpen up my talons....
If you can only win 1 game all week, you probably don't deserve an award.
