Darius Miller Q&A

Hey Darius. Thanks for taking the time to interview with us. How has your time been with the Houston Rockets?

It's been pretty decent. I love that I get meaningful minutes and the opportunity every night to put in work. But I haven't been producing as much as I would like. I should be producing more.

You should. You are the most efficient shooter on the team. What do you think is holding you back?

The coaching staff is telling me I need to shoot more. I have confidence in my shot. I just haven't really developed the tendency to take a larger volume of shots. I've been out of the league for awhile. I believe in time as I get a better feel for the NLL game, the shots will come.

Are there other parts of your game you want to work on?

Yes. My ball handling and perimeter defense. It’s above average, but the coaching staff thinks I need to work on it more.

What about rebounding?

We leave that to the bigs.

I hear that you are the most asked about player in trades. Do you know why that is so?

Yes, the league needs more wings. Few times you will see teams asking for a cheap big or a cheap point guard. But every time, there is always someone in need of a wing. That's why whether it's trade season, draft season, or free agency, wings always go at a premium. Players like me, James Ennis, and Doug McDermott have value because of this.

That's interesting. What do you think your future is with the Rockets?

Tobias Harris and Tim Hardaway Jr are the starting wings. Dion Waiters will be back next year, but I don't think that will effect me since I mainly play the small forward position. I view myself as the long term backup to Tobias. Even if the team were to draft another wing, that rookie would need a year to develop. The Rockets GM informed me that teams asked about me in trades but he didn't want to move me because he viewed me as a long term rotation player. Even at the age of 27, he still thinks I have untapped potential left in me.

What about playoffs? Have you guys thought about playoffs?

To be honest, we aren't a championship caliber team. But this is the best Rockets team the franchise has ever seen. The highest this franchise has ever made it was 8th place in the Western Conference. We can do better this year.

What do you think is the reason for this years success?

Hassan Whiteside. It's all Whiteside. Every decision our GM makes is based on building around Whiteside. That's his favorite player. He loves the defensive anchor type.

Before we end, do you think the Rockets will make any moves before the trade deadline?

The team is meshing really well. I don't see any reason to break the chemistry. I heard all the players we were interested in are either unattainable or not in the NLL yet. So probably not.
