Kuzma Q & A
So, Kyle, what was it like leading up to the trade to Boston? Did you
catch wind of it at all?
It was pretty surreal. Like you hear your life being talked
about but you don’t really get a say in it… I didn’t think Miami would trade
me, to be honest, I my rookie year, but that’s the NLL. It’s a business. Boston
just put across an offer that they couldn’t refuse and I understand and respect
that. As soon as it was official, however, I was nothing but excited to come to
Boston… I mean, they always are winning 55 games a season, sometimes even 60.
They have Durant, Carmelo, Reke... a front office that believes in its players
and in winning… I couldn’t have dreamed of a better landing spot. I am learning
so much from the vets on this team and Danny Ainge has already told me what an
integral part of this franchise I will be. I love coming to work.
How
was your time in Miami?
It was great, man. I will always love Miami. Who wouldn’t
love that city… just so much to look at and do. Breece took a chance on me when
23 other teams didn’t want to so I will be forever grateful at the faith he
showed in me. We got off to a really hot start and we were really enjoying
proving everybody wrong. I wish them all the best in their re-tooling. They got
some winning guys. They are building a brand new, successful culture out there
and it’s exciting if you’re a Heat fan.
Do
you have a favourite Celtics teammate?
Even though I haven’t gotten to play with him yet in the
NLL, I really love Pat Beverly. He is so weird and hilarious and intense, you
never know how to take him. Dakari and I also spend a bit of time together
being the only two rookies on the team.
Who is your basketball idol?
It’s gotta be Mamba, man… Kobe. A Celtics legend. His work ethic is what I
strive to possess one day, just to never settle and rest on what you can do.
Keep adding, keep getting better. And he was a straight savage on the court.
Never backed down, to win was everything to him. I’ve gotten to speak with him
a few teams and it’s been incredible… I was just absorbing so much from his
insights and persona. My hero for sure.
You
have a lot of interests outside of basketball, and are a big player on social
media – what are your goals for off of the court?
I love fashion, man. I always like to look my best. Like to be different. You
might see me catching some heat from my teammates on my Instagram account but I
like trying to stand out; to be different. Same as my basketball. I am my own
guy. I look up to guys but I’m not trying to be them. I’m trying to be the best
me. I also really love films. Big movie buff. That’s what I do in my spare
time, a lot of movies and just relaxing. I’m a pretty chill guy, if it’s not
playing or training, I’m just hanging out.
Do you think Boston can go all the way this season?
I gotta believe that. I gotta believe we can. It’s been so
great so far, my experience with the team, and we are still working on our
chemistry. There are some really great teams in the league who have every right
to think they have the best shot but if we tell ourselves we can’t, we can’t.
Mindset is everything. So, we believe in ourselves and we will see what
happens.
Thanks, Kyle. Go get em.
Thank you.
