Trade possibilities unfulfilled

During the last few breaks, the Suns GM, Pennywise, had a few trade negotiations in the works.  The Suns were given the opportunity to add a few different pieces that could have possibly gotten them into the playoffs this year.  Let’s look at a few of these potential deals:

Evan Fournier – Fournier is a solid SF that plays decent defense and can shoot well, both traits that the Suns always seem to covet.  However, the asking price for Fournier was deemed too high by the Suns, and the additional pieces coming back just didn’t add up for a completed trade.  One of the biggest issues to bringing in Evan was how he would mesh with Gordon Hayward once he returns.  At the end of the day, Phoenix just didn’t believe in an Evan/Gordon marriage, so they watched as Fournier switched to a team not named Phoenix.

Eric Gordon – Another possible piece the Suns could have added, but Gordon just didn’t move the needle enough.  Sure, there could have been secondary pieces added, but SG really isn’t a big weakness for Phoenix with how well Clarkson has been playing.  Also, there was concern by some of the players that Gordon’s chuckfest mentality would take too many touches away from our stars.

Carmelo Anthony -  This was perhaps the most intriguing trade that the Suns could have done recently.  Melo would have been a solid improvement for Phoenix as a SF and also could have moved into the PF spot, pushing Horford to the starting center position.  Sims were encouraging enough for Boston and Phoenix to discuss this possibility 2-3 different times over the last month, but in the end, even though everything ended up being fair and equal with the trade parameters, the cost of doing business would have been too taxing for both teams involved, which ended up being one of the main reasons no deal was ever finalized.

In addition to these players, some curious GMs have been kicking the tires on potential trades involving Jeff Green, Nemanja Bjelica, Jordan Clarkson and Marcin Gortat.  These are all complimentary pieces that would likely catapult a team close to playoff contention into the race.  Nothing has happened yet, but expect that the Suns will continue to discuss trade.
