Exum Close
The Memphis Grizzlies are set to get a
big boost. Their starting point guard Dante Exum is closing in on a return. The
young Aussie has had a terrible run of injuries. After suffering a heart
breaking ACL injury, Dante looked to be on the road to reaching his lofty
potential, with a great summer league and a strong pre season, when in the last
of the pre season games he took a nasty fall and full separated his shoulder.
Reports were that he was to be sidelined all year. However Dante has put his
head down and worked through his rehab incredibly hard. He has kept his fitness
up the whole time and now he is putting up shots and getting involved in some 4
on 4 drills.
GM Dunne was asked about Dante this
morning. “we are so happy to have him back, He is the starting PG of this team
and we cannot wait to have him back out there. He was set for a huge season and
hopefully he can finish the second half of the season playing some good ball.
We had some trade offers for him, some very decent in fact, but we knew all
along we wanted to keep him and resign him at the end of the seasonâ€
With the untimely waiving by the Kings of
Big Papa, The Grizz have been shuffling around their plans. The acquisition of
Sam Dekker in a trade this week will offer some flexibility at the 3 and 4
spots and the imminent return of Exum will allow LeVert to show his flexibility
in other positions too. No doubt it is going to be hard without Papa, but this
team is up for the fight of keeping its playoff chances alive as we head into
the all-star break.
