A Busy Week Back

During the break, the Hawks were left to determine what could be done to right the ship. The last 3 weeks had provided more losses than wins and the front office knew that there were opportunities for roster improvement.

With that said, in a day that saw the phones ringing constantly, the Hawks completed two separate trades. The goal was to establish more draft capital and the team is happy with the results.

Trade 1:
Hawks receive: Patrick McCaw, Nik Stauskas, two 2018 2nd round picks (OKC and ORL), 15 GM points
Thunder receive:  Denzel Valentine, Doug McDermott

The Hawks are sad to see Valentine and McDermott but with that being said, they are excited to add the young McCaw into the fold. He's showed flashes in the NBA especially when Steph Curry was out for a period of time. The team is hopeful that he's able to show some off his defensive prowess that was on display when he was at UNLV. Overall, he's oozing with potential and that is what ultimately pushed the team to complete the trade.

Trade 2:
Hawks receive: Isaiah Whitehead, 2018 2nd (PHO)
Sixers receive: Malik Beasley

The Hawks again completed another trade in an attempt to get more assets. This time, they acquired combo guard Isaiah Whitehead who has shown glimpses of his potential. He drives to the basket aggressively on offense, which is something that this team needs. He's still young and has to become smarter with the ball in his hands and not take a bad shot or cause a foolish turnover but those things are able to be corrected with time and practice. This is why he's currently playing in the G League. Given some time, the Hawks hope that he becomes an anchor on the bench to spell Holiday and Fultz.

Speaking of Fultz, it might not be all doom and gloom. Yes, there have been Twitter videos that have been circulating the internet showing that his shot still isn't 100% resolved but he's been making free throws and jump shots. It appears the biggest weakness is the 3 pt shot. His NBA coach was recently quoted saying, "We all expect him to return to play. We do not envision this at all to be a red shirt year." That quote gives the GM some confidence that Fultz might be making his NLL debut this season instead of next.
