The Bolden Move

Rolling Thunder: 8/01/2018

Happy New Year NLL from the Thunder organisation!

We’re back and the Thunder are flying at the moment finishing off a 4-1 week with a blow out loss to the Easts top team, the Milwaukee Bucks. Despite having no Paul George for their 5 game week, the Thunder looked dominant in their other games and with the luxury of being able to do that with their key scorer out, you have to ponder how far they can go this year? Well, they are 5 games clear on top of the West.

Enough about the current team though, today we’re getting an update on a key euro-stash player that the Thunder simply love. Some might say it was a bold move trading their incumbent starting SF on draft day to secure the rights to a rookie at pick 25, but Nenjabin would say, “It was a Bolden move!” *raucous laughter through the practice facility*

Jonah Bolden, the intriguing Aussie prospect was a draft riser last June which even caused the Thunder to trade up to pick 17 thinking they’d need to use that high of a pick to secure him. As it happened, there was an unexpected draft dip on draft day which saw them instead take Luke Kennard at 17, and then immediately jump on the phone to secure a mid 20s pick (Pick 25 in the end) to secure Bolden. He was stashed, as expected, which helped the Thunder’s roster situation pushing for a title this season, but they now have a possible difference maker set to be added to their already stacked roster next season.

The numbers don’t immediately jump off the page for Maccabi Tel Aviv, but he’s turning heads all round the place. 6.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 1 block while shooting 59% and 31% from deep in only 20 minutes. But he’s rocking a PER of 17.7 and averaging over 2 steals and 2 blocks per 36 with a tantalising mix of length, agility, handle and IQ that is said to be super coachable and very willing to work and listen.

“Jonah is going to help any team he plays on”, experts have been quoted as saying. “He’s a hustle guy, he knows where to be and plays in control while working both ends. He just needs to work a little on his jumper.”

Here’s but a glimpse of what Jonah is all about, hustle:

Will he be rocking the Thunder next year?
