Here comes the Sun(s)
… and I say, it’s alright.
The Suns have been surging as of late, with a record of 11-7 since week 5 compared to the 4-12 prior, for an overall 15-19 record heading into week 9. The Suns went from the basement of the West to tied for 8th seed with the Blazers, who are trending in the opposite direction with a 3-7 record over their last 10.
The Suns are almost back to their full complement as well. Nemanja Bjelica finally returns. He hasn’t played since week 3 and his scoring and rebounding was sorely missed off the bench. The Suns are looking to expand Bjelica’s role in the offense, as they may give him time at both SF and PF this week.
In other news, Davon Reed is making strides in his recovery, as the Suns have assigned him to the Northern Arizona Suns of the G League and could possibly see time in todays game. Expect Suns brass to be cautious with Reed, so he likely won’t be available in the NLL until week 10 at the earliest. The news that he’s closer to making his NLL debut is encouraging, as he shined in offseason and summer league work.
Rumor has it
that the Suns have been in extended trade negotiations to bring in another wing
type player. The deal has apparently
been agreed upon on a basic level, but salary considerations have forced both
teams to try to be more creative to bring a possible deal to fruition. Sources say that the deal could still be
consummated as early as next Friday. Suns
GM Pennywise has not made himself available for comment, as he was scheduled
for a radio interview and last minute attempts to provide him an opportunity to
comment went unanswered prior to the posting of this article. Pennywise has proven to be very active as a
trade partner in the NLL, but sometimes his trades haven’t been as successful
as expected. Sure, he’s willing to take
risks, but should that really be his train of thought with the team currently
on the rise?
