Al Horford on the move??

Big Al, as his teammates affectionately are calling him, has been garnering a lot of trade interest in the last 2 weeks.  Horford has always been considered a top level PF, but his lack of production over the first five weeks seems to have GMs looking to acquire the All Star forward / center at a reasonable rate.  There have been very fair offers for Horford overall, but none that really ended up being “must do” deals.  Suns GM Pennywise continues to reassure Al that his place in Phoenix remains secure.  “Obviously, we always need to do our due diligence, but I expect it would really take a lot for us to pull the trigger on any deal involving Al.” Pennywise stated.  “He was brought in to pair with Kemba, and now with the addition of Gordon Hayward, the expectation is that this Suns’ big three will become a dominant team in the West.”

Al Horford is having a very down year so far in the NLL, but most experts agree that the issue seemed to be related to the way the “officials were calling the game”.  Since the start of week 6, Horford is seeing his numbers begin to climb.  His rebounding was in double digits and we expect that his points per game will improve over time as the offense gets more acclimated to the newer playbook.

Horford is a rare player at the PF spot that can truly stretch the floor, yet he really has not gotten the opportunities to get his shot as often as in the past.  He still defends very well and also is a force in the post.  One of the best things about Horford is his versatility and ability to switch over to center when needed.

Could the Suns still end up moving Horford at some point this season to a contender? It’s possible, but highly improbable.  The trades seen so far just don’t seem to help make the Sun a real force for next season and it seems that’s really what Phoenix is looking at for any deal moving Horford.  The big problem there is that the teams that are really after Horford are teams looking to make that playoff push NOW.  Maybe it will take a creative GM that can really shock the Suns with future potential for Al to be sent off.
