That Winning Feeling

For the first time in GM Dunne’s tenure, the Grizzlies are at .500. All be it through one week, this is still exciting for the success starved Memphis supporters. They must be excited with what they see. GM Dunne has mixed in a combination of exciting rookies with seasoned vets and has come out with a squad that looks like it can be competitive for 82 games this season.

The opening week schedule looked tough, I don’t think even the most optimistic of Grizz fans thought they would snag 2 wins. Matches against Spurs, in which Memphis pushed the reining champs all the way was followed by great wins against 2 powerhouse sides, all be it injury depleted in Phllly and Brooklyn. The week was capped off with a tough loss to close friend Gavin Cruses’ Pelicans. A game in which the grizzlies were confident they could win. But maybe it is lucky they didn’t, I’m not sure this city could have handled a 3-1 start.

Everyone is doing their part. Kenneth Faried and Taj Gibson are playing great minutes inside to support superstar young gun Marquese Chriss who has picked up right where he left off from his rookie season with some inspired performances in week 1. The point guard position looked to be a big problem when Exum went down hurt in the pre season. But newly acquired Tyus Jones and Rookie Frank Ntilikina have both handled themselves more than adequately.

Future Franchise Superstar Jayson Tatum was off to a decent start without dominating, however Coach Fizzdale said that is the plan. “We want to ease him into it, let him get a feel for the game and the system. His touches and his shot will increase as we go along. His first week already showed what he is going to be capable off for 12-15 years.

On paper, week 2 appears to be a weaker schedule than week 1, but when you haven’t won 50 games in the last 2 seasons combined, you do not take anything for granted. Go Grizz!!!
