Week 1 - 3-1
Week 1
Review 3-1
After a long wait and a somewhat tentative excitement
around a return of NLL action to the city of Angels, a return that management hope
produces more highlights than lowlights in 2017/18.
With a tough week scheduled and some expected
teething issues a week of one win would have been considered par for the
course.
To finish the week with three wins is a fantastic achievement
and one that we hope can be built upon over the next 19weeks…
Game 1 matchup - Nuggets @ Clippers
(Win 104-86)
A tough game to start the 2017 / 2018 NLL campaign
against the Denver Nuggets, led by GM Rootsey. A team consisting of John Wall,
Eric Gordon, Dwyane Wade Enes Kanter and Otto Porter was never going to be an
easy task. And Enes Kanter decided he was going to make it as tough as possible
leading the way with 36 what seemed to be easy points and in the process having
Clint Capela’s night end in relatively quick time.
Thankfully the young clipper brigade never gave up
led by late inclusion Cody Zeller with 19 points and 13 rebounds
The end result being an 18 point victory over an
extremely tough Nuggets team. With player of the game honours going to Cody
Zeller for his extremely efficient 19 and 13 game
Game 2 matchup - Spurs @ Clippers (Win 105 – 115 OT)
There are some games teams prepare for and then
there are teams you just hope to compete against the best you can, the two
headed hydra in San Antonio of Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid is a nightmare
proposition and somehow someway the Clippers managed to eek out a win over the
NLL champions in a dramatic overtime victory. Davis and Embiid were unstoppable
The bench play was key for the Clippers
particularly in overtime which belonged to young PG Dennis Smith Jr, who finished
the match with 19pts
Thankfully for the Clippers the Spurs were without
starting point guard Mike Conley for week 1 and in the end was the difference
between a win and loss
Game 3 matchup – Clippers @ Suns (Win
102 – 92)
In the wee hours of Monday morning the young
clippers outfit travelled to Arizona to take on another historically tough
challenge by way of the Penny led Phoenix Suns and a very strong line-up
including Kemba Walker, Al Horford, Marcin Gortat.
The match was a tussle from opening tip with LA
going to the half with a seven point buffer. LAC did just enough through the
remainder of the game to eke out a 10 point victory with Dennis Smith playing
another critical game off the bench with 17 points
Game 4 matchup - Clippers @ Bulls (Loss
106 – 90)
The splash brother Curry and Klay were just a
little too much to handle on this occasion with the entire clippers roster
struggling to maintain possession turning the rock over a total of 20 times of
which Chicago scored 22 points in a 16 point loss
Curry for the bulls was exceptional again, no one on
the clippers worth mentioning in this one.
Week 1 POTW
DAngelo Russell and Cody Zeller
Both
players were exceptional in week 1, with Cody being a late call up to replace
Tristian Thompson who sustained a severe case of Kardasy-lash.
