What is now the 16th time the NLL season is set to start again. As usual the excitement around the site builds, optimism is at its peak among the GM's and everything is ready for tip off.
Down in San Antonio this season lead up has taken an unfamiliar spin, gone are the days of running sims, tweaking and trying to set off on the right foot. Maybe its what they call the championship hangover striking early, but things have been different.
The highs of last season have been well documented, it was an incredible season, this will be the last mention of it. The way GM Leeroy sees it, we are just one of the pack again.
This off season bought up some challenges, multiple players agreeing to extensions early, and salary cap concerns compounding forcing some early trades to put things in place for the coming seasons. Courtney Lee was the first casualty of the cap squeeze, sent to Sacramento for a future 1st round pick. CJ Miles decided to became a sign and trade, then wasn't, in the end the team kept its word for a pre agreed to deal and sent him to Milwaukee for former Spur Lou Williams.
Another former Spur Ramon Sessions was picked up as insurance at the PG position in Free Agency, similarly Justin Holiday agreed to join the team as a replacement for the depth lost with the Lee trade. Alan Williams preseason injury has him out until march and with very limited interest in him the team re-signed him in good faith after his performance last season. Finally the team had 2 draft picks, which is unusual for them. Jordan Bell and Semi Ojeleye both earned a spot on the squad.
We hope it is a fantastic upcoming season for all teams, the excitement and enthusiasm is generally contagious, with time the Spurs will kick into gear and start putting in that work towards the ultimate goal again.
