Wizards News: Here We Go!
The Washington Bulletin   November 4th, 2017   2010-2011 NLL World Champions |
The season is upon us, and week one starts only a few days from now. So what has GM Darko and the Wizards been up to? After getting a payload of talent from trading Klay Thompson to the Bulls, the Wizards drafted rookies Frank Mason and Dillon Brooks. Both players look like solid NLL players with potential to be more. The Wizards are in a rebuilding stage, and have multiple first round draft picks over the next three years. But since the Wizards dont own their 2018 first round pick, the current plan is to win as much as they can, resign Julius Randle and Seth Curry in the offseason, add more rookies, make smart moves, and continue to get better. Part of getting better is signing good free agents, which the Wizards got a steal in Jeremy Lin. Yes he is injured for the 2018-2019 season, but he has a team option which he will likely pick up after having a season ending injury. Lin could come back next season and continue to help the Wizards grow. The Wizards also signed Amir Johnson to a one year deal, which will be good for depth up front and veteran leadership. Still on the roster is veterans like Robin Lopez, Joe Johnson, and Jamal Crawford. But the Wizards have some exciting young talent like Julius Randle, Buddy Hield, Seth Curry, Dragan Bender, Cristiano Felicio, Frank Mason, and Dillon Brooks. With a mix of youth and veterans the Wizards are hoping to sneak into the eighth playoff spot again. There are more than enough power teams in the east, so it wont be easy.

On to week one, where the Wizards have a few injuries. They will be without Seth Curry, Joe Johnson, Kyle Singler, and of course Jeremy Lin. The Wizards have pretty good depth at the shooting guard and small forward spot, so it will be interesting to see how the rotations will go with Seth and Joe out, who were both set to start opening day. The Wizards will head into week one against the Indiana Pacers, Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons, and Oklahoma City Thunder. Last year the Wizards narrowly beat the Hornets for the eighth playoff spot, but this year they look even stronger. Wizards will have to put up a good effort to beat the Hornets. They will have to play almost perfect if they want to have a chance to beat the Thunder. But the games against the Pistons and Pacers, we feel, have a good shot to be games where the final two minutes decide who wins and who loses. It will be an exciting start to the season. I can already feel the electricity of opening day. Wizards fans are looking forward to the new season, and so are the players and GM Darko. LETS GO!
