Goodbye Sap, hello old friends

Free-agent day one went as expected for the Knicks. The big news obviously was Paul Millsap leaving New York after over a decade.

The franchise now rests squarely on James Harden's shoulders, as he is now the senior citizien with eight years of service for the team. Kyrie Irving is second with six years. Both go on record in wanting to top Millsap's mark.

"James already signed his extension last year," said Irving. "Six years, right? That will take him to, ehm, 14 years in orange and blue. So he will not only take over the team record, but also Mohammed's league record. Obviously I will follow suit and will surpass him eventually."

"Man, it's gonna be a different locker room for sure," said Harden. "There are several players on this team, who have never been in a locker without Paul."

"Thank you Paul," said dunadan. "Thanks for over 900 games played. The last eleven years have been a great ride. All the best for your future. Maybe we will meet again."

After completing the Millsap sign and trade early on, the Knicks proceeded to invest their gm point haul in convincing Z-Bo to return and then re-signed Ingles and Mills as well.

But Mills was soon shipped out to be Sacramento's starting point guard. The Knicks received another future first in return, replenishing their depleted pick-coffers. The expected abolishion of the PG rule will allow Lance Stephenson to officially run the second unit.

With the two salary dumps the team now has two huge trade exceptions, a full MLE coming in and almost $10 million of wiggle room under the dreaded hard cap.

That puts them in play for every free agent next weekend.

Nene has made clear his intentions of wanting to return. Prince Mbah a Moute is likely to test the market, but dunadan wants to bring him back nevertheless. He was a crucial part of last year's run.

As for meeting again. This years free agent class is teeming with former Knicks players. Rudy Gay, Shaun Livingston, Mario Chalmers, Patrick Patterson, Kyle Korver, Ron Baker, Jodie Meeks, Jose Calderon, Quincy Acy, Mike Muscala and Michael Beasley all have played for this franchise before.

There certainly is interest in at least half of these guys from the Knicks front office.

They briefly considered swapping Mills for their former draft pick Livingston, before going for the Kings' pick. They could now potentially get him as well.

All of last year, the team was waiting for Chalmers to return from his devasting knee injury. He didn't, so they picked up Mills at the deadline. Now Supermario is back. Will he return to Gotham?

Beasley was once aquired first a first-rounder, only to bail and continue his career in China. There certainly is unfinished business there. And he now is a Knick in real life.

Kyle Korver's career starting taking off when he was with the Knicks. In those days he never sniffed a 70+ overall. His four years with the team still put him at #10 in the team's all-time scoring list. Add another couple of seasons and he could reach top-5 status.

What is certain is that the front-office wants to fill the roster with shooters. No matter what position.
