Young Turk

The entire state of Oregon would like to welcome with excitement, the 6’7”, 186 lbs shooting guard from Bakirkoy, Turkey, Furkan Korkmaz.

Furkan Korkmaz has been playing in the Turkish Basketball League for the past season. Although he had not been given a tonne of minutes, he was still productive and when given opportunity had glimpses of greatness.

Furkan is a natural scorer. His jump shot is pure silk. In his U19 World Championship tournament  he averaged just under 50% from the field with a tasty percentage of them coming from beyond the arc. He is not afraid to shoot the ball either and getting to his spots is not hard as he has showed great polish as a teenager hitting jumpers off screens and with the defence having no choice but to respect his jumper, that consequently opens up lanes to the hoop for the young turk.

He is definitely not a freak athlete, but he can definitely hold his own. His great size at the shooting guard position makes him a formidable defensive opponent. He reads the ball well and can be quite pesky on the defensive end which results in solid steal numbers. He does however need to put some muscle onto his long frame in order to mix it with the big boys.

Korkmaz has a great demeanour and isn't afraid to put in the hard work. Which is one of the reasons why the Portland Trailblazers were willing to give up the pieces they did to acquire him. He clearly has natural talent, but that paired with his work ethic and dedication could be the perfect combination for a star to be born.

Korkmaz will become the fourth active Turkish player in the league, alongside Enes Kanter, Ersan Ilyasova and Omer Asik. Fairly decent company and there is no reason why he can not surpass them all.

Turkey may never have birthed a guard of his caliber before, big, new things are ahead of Furkan Korkmaz. Big things.

Blaze the trail son.
