Lakers Look to the Future

Sunday, 16th July, 2017: Exciting times in Los Angeles as the Lakers turn over a new leaf moving on from future NLL Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade in exchange for a what management is terming a ‘basket of goods’.  Interest around the league was fairly high for the services of Wade who was an Allstar last season and led the Lakers to their 6th consecutive NLL playoffs campaign under gm greenmig.  Whilst some of the offers were reasonably solid it was always managements plan to focus on receiving predominantly young players and  â€˜future assets’ in the deal.  In particular the team who intend to build around Malcolm Brogdon and Nikola Vucevic were seeking PF and SG’s.

Offers: “We had some good offers for established players but really what we wanted was a combination of things including a solid veteran, a young player with promise and some future draft considerations,” said gm greenmig. “Of course there were those gm’s who offered us a brass razoo but we generally steer clear from doing business with these types.”

Whilst it was quite a lengthy negotiating process, the final deal which was reached has management excited.

A Deal is Done
: Initially it began DEN gm rootsey who offered to send Marcin Gortat, young French SG Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, (TLC) rights to rookie SG Daymean Dotson, a Senior out of Houston University and a future 2nd round pick.  It was accepted in principle with the hope to ‘flipping’ Gortat for more assets.  There were three offers for Gortat but PHX gm penny put together the best package which included Meyers Leonard, sharpshooting veteran Mirza Teletovic, both favourites of gm greenmig who has tried to gain their services in the past as well as the rights to euro stash PF Alpha Kaba and a future 2nd round pick.

‘Basket of Goods’: So in summary the Lakers receive two young SG’s in TLC and Dotson, a young C/PF in Leonard and a solid veteran PF in Teletovic – all will play right away.  In addition, they now hold the rights to an intriguing big man euro stash in Alpha Kaba as well as 2 more future 2nd round picks.

Shooters: Whilst it is acknowledged that the deal lacks established names, Lakers management feel as though they have accomplished their goals by trading Wade for SG’s, PF’s as well as ‘future potential’ and are looking forward to developing their team and rebuilding and feel as though this deal will be looked upon as a key part of that process.

Scrimmages will be held during the coming weeks to find the best combination of players but one is thing remains clear, in this new era of ‘pace and space’ the Lakers have now added four more guys who can flat out shoot the ball and their options are many.

Stay tuned for more news as we look at each new Laker in coming articles.
