The Fringe: Davis Bertans

                                                    The Fringe: Davis Bertans

What’s up Jazz fans?!

Today we’ll talk about a fringe player that is known around the block as the “Latvian Dirk”, which is a name that has traveled with him from his early basketball scouting days, because he was always very tall, and had a finesse to his game that resembled that of Dirk Nowitzki, the Diggler.

We’re talking about Davis Bertans, of course,

Bertans started out playing in Latvia, then his talents took him to Slovenia, Serbia, Spain and now San Antonio, Texas. He also represents the Latvian national team. He was selected with the 42nd pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Indiana Pacers and was the 47th pick of the NLL Draft by the New York Knicks.

Davis, who’s 24, was actually supposed to come to the United States and the NBA much earlier, since the San Antonio Spurs had been monitoring him for quite a while due to his height and 3-point marksman ability that suits a basketball game that has been drifting towards the perimeter.

Unfortunately, Bertans had to wait a little while because he tore his ACL and had to go through an extensive rehab process to come back to full form,  so the NBA dream was delayed for a year, but the Jazz kept monitoring him from afar and despite several offers over the years, ever since he was traded to us from Detroit, management decided to stay put and believe in this player’s  potential as sort of a taller Kyle Korver, which would certainly add a dimension that the team has been lacking severely, since the Eric Gordon trade.

Bertans still has a ways to go towards establishing himself in the NBA and really becoming what we here think he can and be a feature in the NLL as a role player, but we believe he’s got what it takes.

Fun fact about Davis:

Due to a childhood wood-cutting accident, Bertans is missing part of the ring finger on his right hand.

That’s all for now, and see you next time.
