Keeping it Melo...

Today I'm joined by the fresh faced Carmelo Anthony who had recently found his way into the always welcoming and loving arms of the Sacramento Kings faithful. Sure, It wasn't an easy transition and definitely wasn't one void of some level of resentment, anger and confusion. The Kings fan base have been jerked around for the better part of the year with forever changing line ups and an apparent aura of procrastination and frustration driving the direction of the team. Melo had to prove he was the foundation of a championship calibre team that every franchise is ultimately looking for. He had to come in and be BETTER then Klay. He had to come in and elevate his game to something we haven't seen yet this year. He had to come in and lead this team by both example and principle.

We're going to completely overreact after such a relatively short period of time and proclaim that this move was a complete success! We have Melo here to discuss his side of the recent turn of events and share what he envisions for this Kings franchise hoping to go all the way...

Media: Hey my man, glad you could spare some time to come in and have a chat about everything Kings related... How have you found the move so far and whats the main difference you've noticed playing within this system?

Melo: Hey thanks for having me its been such a full on experience so far I've only just managed to catch my breath and assess things properly. Its been alright, tough moving your whole life to another state at the drop of a hat. Its a completely different feel here then what I'm used to. Love the people and love the organisation so far with what they've been able to achieve. Well its definitely a lot quicker here... The franchise has sightly altered its direction but have still managed to keep to its roots in being able to impact the game on both ends of the floor... Ive noticed straight away for sure that I have to provide a lot more scoring from the perimeter compared to the Wizards. As they have me playing at the 3 spot which i feel I'm more comfortable in and able to be more effective.

Media: Yeah i suppose thats always been a focus here in terms of offensive style its great to see you adapt within a new system. Do you know any of the guys here from previous experience in the league or is it like starting school all over again?

Melo: Haha well we have a bit of an inside joke going at the moment that we should rename ourselves the "Sacramento Wizards" as close to half of our current roster have come from Washington in numerous deals. Guys like Korver, Collison and Rondo are people i know well and who i respect given their experience and skills they bring to the table. So in that sense its been an easy transition and something i felt comfortable in almost straight away. Reggie is a gun and I've been really impressed with how he's handled himself since coming from the Spurs while essentially being handed the keys to run our offence. Batum is a pro man, he does everything well i love his game and how he can impact on the floor, makes my job so much easier. Really high on Green and how effective his been all year long and the rest of the guys know how much i love em.

Media: So what do you think are the chances of you guys going all the way with the group you have now? Who do you see as the main competition in a whole new Conference?

Melo: I definitely think we have what it takes, I'm super confident in this group. Even before i came here i have watched how well they have played together and how they have handled themselves to play some pretty solid ball. Klay is a super star and will have a heavier load to handle being the go to guy in Washington. I came in not wanting to change much or upset the chemistry these guys have already formed. Just had to pick my spots and slot in to the system in a way that i could get my own but also make my team mates better. Well you have to beat everyone right? Obviously Spurs are close to unstoppable at the moment, Embiids injury issues do leave the door slightly open sure but it would still be a massive fete to be able to get over them in a 7 game series. OKC are really coming into form as they always do closer to the end of the season and they're tough man, so hard to score against. You have to work for every possession. Denver are just a few tweaks away from being really dangerous again with all their acquisitions along with teams like the Wolves, Lakers, Dubs and Utah especially now with Gasol. Hell... Most of the Western teams are pretty dangerous on any given night we have to be prepared.

Media: Any thoughts yet as to what your long term goals and plans are or is it still way to early to even give that any time?

Melo: Yeah man its probably the last thing on my mind right now. I need to focus on whats at hand and worry about that stuff later. I still have a couple years on my contract left and i don't see any reason right now as to why i would leave to go anywhere else. If you guys will have me ill be more then happy to stick around haha.

Media: I think its safe to say that we all fantasise sometimes of a Kings Franchise being led by yourself for years to come. Thanks for your time Melo and good luck for the rest of the season.

Melo: My pleasure guys thanks for having me.
