Salary Cap Issues

The team with the highest designated Salaries in the NBA is the Cleveland Cavaliers with a reported $132,725,008.  The Cavs in the NLL are having the same problems, just bringing back the same team as last year who failed to get past the 2nd round will cost $117,275,409.

That seems unlikely as only 3 players are under contract Ibaka, Parker and Stuckey, eating up $33m of the Cap.

Cleveland will do whatever it can to bring back:

Lebron James: Arguably the best player in the game, but that comes with a price tag. $30,963,450. With a winning record and staying at the Cavs in the NBA, can’t see him going anywhere.

Andre Drummond: An exciting big man, $22,116,750. Cleveland have made him a Restricted Free Agent and don’t want to lose him. A big part of their future, still hasn’t peaked.

Terrence Ross: Exciting. Athletic Wingman. $10,000,000. Seems a decent deal for a guy who can shoot, spread the floor, can defend but is yet to break out. Could be seen as a bargain in years to come.

Let’s stop here and summarise so far, $96,775,513 on 6 players. Wow, and the team doesn’t get better.

The big question is, can this team win with this roster, propped up with cheap contracts or do they need to make a splash, trade a player or 2 and go for it.

With proposed salaries, not sure a big player is an option in free agency.

Currently the team has 6 players who all have an F loyalty rating, looking to go where ever the cash takes them. Kendrick will not be retained and I don’t think we will see him in the NLL, he has had a good career and we wish him all the best. The rest are all options, Solomon Hill’s large contract maybe looking the least likely.

An exciting and yet unpredictable time ahead for the Cleveland Cavs.
