The next step for Dipo

The next step for Dipo

”Stay Hungry, Stay Focused, Stay Humble.” – That’s what it reads when you open Victor Oladipo’s Twitter account @VicOladipo.

That’s his mantra!

The 6’4 shooting guard for the Jazz, Victor Oladipo, is in one of those places in a basketball career where everything seems to be converging in his favor and seems to be in place in order for him to succeed.

To take that “next step”, as they say.

“Dipo”, as his team mates and fans are used to call him is already an elite lockdown defender in the league, but he is one of those players that still feel they are unrecognized and underrated in many ways.

Now it is time to change that. This Jazz team has the depth it hasn’t had in a long time, maybe ever, and there is all sorts of talent around him.

Victor is usually the type of player that makes the other team mates better by his passion, dedication to the craft, discipline, energy and spirit, but this time everything looks set for him to have an even bigger impact on this team, one that coupled with other budding emerging stars such as Andrew Wiggins and Julius Randle promises to keep the Jazz reputation as an exciting team and an already established playoff team in back-to-back season. Something that hadn’t been seen since the legendary GM ProID was around the premises.

After a change of scenery in the NBA put him side-by-side with an athletic freak forming, instantly, one of the most athletic backcourts in the league, Oladipo says he is ready to take off and run with it.

He has been very productive every year he has been in the league, and he was terrific after the All-Star break last season (NBA) – averaging 19.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.1 blocks while shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from three-point range.

Check out what he said to Alex Kennedy over at Basketball Insiders.

“I’ve been working on a little bit of everything – a lot of catch-and-shoot stuff, a lot of on-the-ball stuff and different things like that. I’m always trying to add little things to my game and improve my repertoire. That’s what I’ve been trying to do. … I feel like you’re going to see a lot more from me [in Oklahoma City]. I don’t think I’ve even scratched the surface of how good I really can be. I’m getting better every day and I’m looking forward to [showing] it. I can still grow way, way more. I’ve only been in the NBA for three years and I’m just getting more and more comfortable every year. The game has been slowing down for me every year and I’m just so much more comfortable out there.

That’s really important for him to really maintain this kind of focus after just turning 24 years old and with three NBA season under his belt. This kind of hunger is the source of longevity in this league and is usually followed by success.

We have no doubt Oladipo is the player to watch for a full-blown breakout on the Jazz roster this season, and that would only make the team an inch closer to its major goal.

If it all clicks even another notch for Victor, watch out!

See you next time, Jazz fans!
